Rason (formerly Rajin-Sŏnbong; ) is a North Korean special city and ice-free port in the Sea of Japan in the North Pacific Ocean on the northeast tip of North Korea. It is in the Kwanbuk region and location of the Rason Special Economic Zone. In South Korean pronunciation, the initial "R" of the name is pronounced as "N", (나선, ''Naseon'') as per standard Korean phonology. In 2000, the name was shortened from "Rajin-Sŏnbong" to "Rason". During the 1930s, the Japanese called it Rashin; at that time, it was an important port at the end of a railroad line. It was liberated by the Red Army on 14 August 1945. Before 1991, Rason was used by the Soviet Union as an alternative warm-water port in case Vladivostok was unavailable. The Soviet naval facilities were built starting in 1979. Nason, Suriname
Nason (also: Amekan kondre) is a village of Paramacca Maroons in the Sipaliwini District of Suriname. The village is located on an island in the Marowijne River. History The village was originally known as Amekan kondre after their chief Amekan. It has been renamed Nason after the Nassau Mountains which are visible in the distance. The Redemptorists, Catholic missionaries, were active in the Paramaccan territory during the 19th and 20th century. In 1938, they founded the Anton Domici school and a library in the village. Because there were small isolated villages in the territory, the school offered boarding facilities. In 1985, the boarding school had a capacity of 21 beds. A health care clinic was provided by Medische Zending. Nason (December 16, 1825 – April 1, 1899) was an American farmer and lumberman from Nasonville, Wisconsin who served one term as a Greenback Party member of the Wisconsin State Assembly, representing Clark, Lincoln, Taylor and Wood counties. Background Nason was born in Standish, Cumberland County, Maine on December 16, 1825, and received a common school education. He became a farmer and lumberman. Nason went to California in 1849, but returned to Maine in 1853, and in that same year moved to Wisconsin, settling in Wood County along with his brother William G. Nason in the spring of 1855. Pieter Nason (bapt. 16 February 1612, Amsterdam - 1688/90, The Hague) was a Dutch painter. He became a member of the Guild of Painters of The Hague in 1639, and in 1656 was one of the forty seven members who established the 'Pictura Society. From a MS. by Pieter Terwesten, it appears not improbable that Nason was a pupil of Jan van Ravensteyn; and it is believed that his name has been effaced from pictures since attributed to Mierevelt, Moreelse, and above all to Ravensteyn. Nicole Robilotto Nason (born August 12, 1970) is an American government official who served as the 26th Administrator of the Federal Highway Administration from 2019 to 2021. Nason previously served as the Assistant Secretary of State for Administration. Career Nason's career in the Department of Transportation began in March 2003 when she was appointed to assistant secretary for governmental affairs, and two years later was nominated by President George W. Bush in January 2006 to be the administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. She remained in that post until August 2008. According to former EPA staff, she impeded their efforts to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from motor vehicles by failing to coordinate with them.
