Naso (fish)
''Naso'' is a genus of fish in the surgeonfish family, Acanthuridae. Fish of this genus are known commonly as unicornfishes because of the "rostral protuberance", a hornlike extension of the forehead present in some species. Unicorn fish are popular with spearfishermen and may be cooked by grilling them whole. Unicornfish primarily live around coral reefs and eat mostly algae. It is very popular in Maldives. This genus is distributed across the Indo-Pacific from Africa to Hawaii. Naso Mcdadei
The squarenose unicornfish (''Naso mcdadei'') is a species of marine ray-finned fish belonging to the family Acanthuridae, the surgeonfishes, unicornfishes and tangs. This species is found in the Indo-Pacific region. Taxonomy The squarenose unicornfish was first formally described in 2002 by the Australian ichthyologist Jeffrey W. Johnson of the Queensland Museum with its type locality given as Flat Rock off Stradbroke Island in Queensland. This species is classified within the nominate subgenus of the genus '' Naso''. The genus ''Naso'' is the only genus in the subfamily Nasinae in the family Acanthuridae. Albert William Herre
Albert William Christian Theodore Herre (September 16, 1868 – January 16, 1962) was an American ichthyologist and lichenologist. Herre was born in 1868 in Toledo, Ohio. He was an alumnus of Stanford University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in botany in 1903. Herre also received a master's degree and a Ph.D. from Stanford, both in ichthyology. He died in Santa Cruz, California in 1962. Work in the Philippines Albert W. Herre was perhaps best known for his Taxonomy (biology), taxonomic work in the Philippines, where he was the Chief of Fisheries of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Bureau of Science in Manila from 1919 to 1928. ''Naso lituratus'' is a species of fish in the family Acanthuridae, the tangs and unicornfishes. Its common names include barcheek unicornfish, naso tang, and orange-spine unicornfish. Unique to members of Acanthuridae, including ''Naso lituratus'', are the ''Epulopiscium'' bacteria. These bacteria influence the digestion of ''Naso lituratus'', helping them process the algae in their diet. ''Naso lituratus'' can be found in the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. Pieter Bleeker
Pieter Bleeker (10 July 1819 – 24 January 1878) was a Dutch medical doctor, ichthyologist, and herpetologist. He was famous for the ''Atlas Ichthyologique des Indes Orientales Néêrlandaises'', his monumental work on the fishes of East Asia published between 1862 and 1877. Life and work Bleeker was born on 10 July 1819 in Zaandam. He was employed as a medical officer in the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army from 1842 to 1860, (in French). stationed in the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia). During that time, he did most of his ichthyology work, besides his duties in the army. He acquired many of his specimens from local fishermen, but he also built up an extended network of contacts who would send him specimens from various government outposts throughout the islands.
