''Narsinh Mehta'' ( gu, નરસિંહ મેહતા) is a 1932 Gujarati biographical film directed by Nanubhai Vakil. It was the first Gujarati talkie film. Plot The film is based on the life of the saint-poet Narsinh Mehta. Cast The cast was: * Master Manhar as Narsinh Mehta * Umakant Desai as Krishna * Mohan Lala as Ra Mandlik * Khatun as Kunwarbai * Master Bachu as Kunwarbai's husband * Miss Jamna as Manekbai * Miss Mehtab as Rukmini Marutirao, Trikam Das and Miss Devi appeared in other roles. Nanubhai Vakil
Nanubhai Vakil (23 May 1902 – 29 December 1980) was a Hindi and Gujarati film director. He was the first to make a Gujarati talkie film with a biopic on the saint Narsinh Mehta in 1932. ''Narsinh Mehta's'' (1932) star cast included the actress Mehtab. Career Vakil frequently collaborated with Zubeida and Patience Cooper. The twelve-year-old Suraiya, who had done minor roles as a child artist in films like ''Usne Kya Socha'' (1937) was cast as the young Mumtaz in ''Taj Mahal'' (1941) by Vakil. Vakil later remade several of the silent films "based on Parsi theatre plays". W. M. Anandshankar Dhruv
Anandshankar Bapubhai Dhruv (25 February 1869 – 7 April 1942) was a Gujarati scholar, writer, educationist and editor from Gujarat, India. His name is revered as 'Acharya' (a learned person) in Gujarat, and hence generally he is known as Acharya Anandshankar Dhruv. Life Dhruv was born in Ahmedabad on 25 February 1869. His father was an officer of Kathiawar Agency and worked as an agent of Baroda State after retirement. He studied in English medium schools and learned Sanskrit at early age. While studying Master of Arts, he started teaching Sanskrit at Gujarat College in 1893. Later he taught at Elphinstone College for some years. He was appointed a Vice Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University in 1920. He performed the opening ceremony of The Modern School at Sicka Nagar, Bombay in 1936 established by Ramanbhai and Pushpaben Vakil. He was also a chairman of Inter University Board. Ravishankar Raval (1892–1977) was a painter, art teacher, art critic, journalist and essayist from Gujarat, India. He worked for the magazine ''Vismi Sadi'' until it closed in 1921, and then founded the cultural magazine ''Kumar''. Life Ravishankar Raval was born in a brahmin family on 1 August 1892 in Bhavnagar (now in Gujarat, India). His father Mahashanakar Raval was an officer in the British Communication Service. He spent his childhood in several towns as his father was transferred from one place to another. He wrote that he inherited his artistic instincts from his mother.
