Narsaq is a town in the Kujalleq municipality in southern Greenland. The name ''Narsaq'' is Kalaallisut for "Plain", referring to the shore of Tunulliarfik Fjord where the town is located. History People have lived in the area for thousands of years, but not continuously. Remains of the Norse settlement can be found in the area. The church ruins of Dyrnæs can be found on the north-western outskirts of the town. The Landnám homestead, ''Landnamsgaarden'', can be found immediately to the west of the town. Excavation of the ruins began in 1953 with the discovery of the Narsaq stick, the first Viking Age runic inscription discovered in Greenland. The wider Narsaq area has some of the most striking Norse artefacts and ruins. Erik the Red's Brattahlid is located in present-day Qassiarsuk, and the Gardar bishop seat is in present-day Igaliku. Narsaq Massacre
The Narsaq massacre was a mass shooting on 1 January 1990, during a party in Narsaq, a southern Greenland town in the municipality of Kujalleq, south of the island's capital of Nuuk. Seven people were killed and one was critically wounded in the worst mass shooting in the autonomous constituent country's history. Background Greenland has a high murder rate and the highest suicide rate in the world. The country only has one closed prison, Ny Anstalt which is located in Nuuk, so people who commit serious crimes are often known to walk free unless they are transported to Ny Anstalt, a Danish prison or another facility. Narsaq, with around 1,300 people of mostly Inuit ethnicity, is one of the largest towns in Greenland. The town contains one small hospital and a police station. Greenland had 18 homicides in 1989. Shooting During a New Years party after the turn of the year 1989 to 1990, student Abel Klemmensen got involved in a dispute with his best friend for taking ...

List Of Cities And Towns In Greenland
This is a list of cities and towns in Greenland as of 2021. The term 'city' is used loosely for any populated area in Greenland, given that the most populated place is Nuuk, the capital, with 19,279 inhabitants. In Greenland, two kinds of settled areas are distinguished: ''illoqarfik'' (Greenlandic for 'town'; ''by'' in Danish) and ''nunaqarfik'' (Greenlandic for 'settlement'; ''bygd'' in Danish). The difference between the two decreased since the new administrative units were introduced in 2009, with the influence of previous municipality centers decreasing. As of October 2021, Greenland has 56,523 people living along the coast and many islands. There are no permanent human inland settlements or towns in Greenland; the only inland human settlements that exist are seasonal research stations. Towns with a population of more than 1,000 There are 13 towns in Greenland with a population exceeding 1,000:Statistics GreenlandPopulation in localities/ref> Towns and settlements wi ...

Sermitsiaq (newspaper)
''Sermitsiaq'' is one of two national newspapers in Greenland. It is named after the mountain Sermitsiaq. The newspaper was published for the first time May 21, 1958, as a Kalaallisut-language alternative to the Danish-language newspaper ''Mikken''. The two magazines were printed separately, with Mikken on Saturdays and Sermitsiaq on Mondays for about six months, until Mikken was published for the last time on 22 November the same year. ''Sermitsiaq'' was first printed in both Danish and Kalaallisut the week before ''Mikken'' closed down. ''Sermitsiaq'' was a local newspaper distributed only in Nuuk city until around 1980 when the newspaper became national. The newspaper became increasingly political in the period around 1980, since Greenland was granted home rule in 1979. The newspaper is published every Friday, while the online version is updated several times daily. In 2010 ''Sermitsiaq'' merged with ''Atuagagdliutit/Grønlandsposten ''Atuagagdliutit/Grønlandsposten'', u ...

World War II
World War II or the Second World War, often abbreviated as WWII or WW2, was a world war that lasted from 1939 to 1945. It involved the vast majority of the world's countries—including all of the great powers—forming two opposing military alliances: the Allies and the Axis powers. World War II was a total war that directly involved more than 100 million personnel from more than 30 countries. The major participants in the war threw their entire economic, industrial, and scientific capabilities behind the war effort, blurring the distinction between civilian and military resources. Aircraft played a major role in the conflict, enabling the strategic bombing of population centres and deploying the only two nuclear weapons ever used in war. World War II was by far the deadliest conflict in human history; it resulted in 70 to 85 million fatalities, mostly among civilians. Tens of millions died due to genocides (including the Holocaust), starvation, ma ...
