Narrow-gauge Railways In Bosnia And Herzegovina
Most Bosnian-gauge railway lines were built during the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Several gauge railways were planned in order to link the extensive narrow-gauge railways in the Austro-Hungarian Empire with those in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Until the outbreak of the Balkan Wars in 1912 several were constructed. Between World War I and World War II the network was extended significantly, at the end connecting the Adriatic Coast with Belgrade, with the network growing to around 1500 km in length. Construction of a new standard-gauge line from Sarajevo to Ploče on the Adriatic in 1966 replaced the Narentabahn ( Narenta railway) from Sarajevo to the coast and had the effect of isolating the south-western narrow-gauge system from the railways starting at Sarajevo. With the demise of a connecting network all the other remaining narrow-gauge lines were then at risk and restricted to local traffic. The system based on the Adriatic closed in 1975. By 1979 the rest of the Bosni ...

Lokomotive Kk Bosnabahn 7 IDA (Krauss %26 Cie No
The Lokomotive (German for "locomotive") is a striking climbing rock north of Kurort Rathen in Saxon Switzerland in Germany. The rock, which resembles a steam locomotive in appearance, is also known as ''Große Ruine'', is about 30 metres high and is divided into two parts: known as ''Lokomotive-Dom'' ("Locomotive Dome") and ''Lokomotive-Esse'' ("Locomotive Chimney"). The ridge between the two is called the ''Kesselgrat'' ("Boiler Ridge"), the rock teeth next to the Esse as ''Pfeife'' ("Whistle"). For a short time there was a weather vane on the dome in the shape of a wheel. The Lokomotive rises on the massif of the ''Honigsteine''. The Dome of the Lokomotive was first climbed in 1886 by Friedrich Hartmann and Robert Kappmeier. In the history of free climbing in Saxon Switzerland the climb of the Esse on 7 June 1903 by Albert Kunze and Oliver Perry-Smith was the first ascent of the Esse and the first step in climbing the open face. Until then climbers had focussed on chimneys an ...

Portuguese Train Type 9700
The Série 9700 were a type of diesel multiple unit train used by the Portuguese Railways (CP) on metre gauge lines, including the Tua line and Corgo line. They were originally built by Đuro Đaković in the 1960s for use on gauge railways in Yugoslavia, and while used there bore the class name JŽ 802. They were purchased secondhand by CP from the Yugoslav Railways in 1980; for use in Portugal they had to be regauged. They frequently proved unreliable in service and several were substantially rebuilt, with new engines. The trains were nicknamed ''Xepas'', after the unfortunate principal character on the Brazilian comedic soap opera ''Dona Xepa'' broadcast on Portuguese television. The chassis of several vehicles have survived and were extensively rebuilt in the mid-1990s, with new bodywork, and were reclassified as Série 9500. These rebuilt railcars are now used on the Metro de Mirandela. The rest of the fleet have been withdrawn, with some vehicles being exported to Peru ...

Knin
Knin (, sr, link=no, Книн, it, link=no, Tenin) is a city in the Šibenik-Knin County of Croatia, located in the Dalmatian hinterland near the source of the river Krka, an important traffic junction on the rail and road routes between Zagreb and Split. Knin rose to prominence twice in history, as the capital of both the medieval Kingdom of Croatia and, briefly, of the unrecognized self-proclaimed Republic of Serbian Krajina for the duration of Croatian War of Independence from 1991 to 1995. Etymology The name is likely derived from the Illyrian ''Ninia''. According to an alternative explanation, offered by Franz Miklosich and Petar Skok, the name - derived from a Slavic root ''*tьn-'' ("to cut", "to chop") - has a meaning of "cleared forest". The medieval names of Knin include hu, Tinin; it, Tenin; la, Tinum. The Latin name is still used as a titular episcopal see, the Diocese of Tinum. History Ancient The area consisting of today's Knin, or more specifically, ...
