Kataoka Naoharu
was a Japanese entrepreneur and politician during the prewar period. He served as Minister of Commerce and Industry (1924), Minister of Finance (1927), and a member of the House of Peers (1930-1934). Biography Kataoka was born on October 13, 1859 in Tosa Province (present-day Kōchi Prefecture). He served as an official in the police department of Shiga Prefecture. In 1880, he was transferred to Tokyo, where he caught the attention of Itō Hirobumi and was recruited into the Home Ministry. However, in 1889, Kataoka was recruited away from a career to accept the post of vice president of Nippon Life Insurance Company, and subsequently served as president of the company from 1903–1919. He was also president of the Miyako Hotels chain from 1915, and served as a member of the board for the Kyōdō Bank and Kansai Railways. Mizoguchi Naoharu
was the 6th ''daimyō'' of Shibata Domain in Echigo Province, Japan (modern-day Niigata Prefecture). His courtesy title was '' Shinano-no-kami,'' and his Court rank was Junior Fifth Rank, Lower Grade. Biography Mizoguchi Naoharu was the second son of Mizoguchi Shigemoto and was born in Shibata. He was received in formal audience by Shōgun Tokugawa Tsunayoshi in 1694 and became ''daimyō'' in 1719 on the death of his father. In 1724, he was entrusted with the administration of 43,000 ''koku'' of ''tenryō'' lands in Echigo Province, and another 20,000 ''koku'' in 1729. Despite this addition income, the domain was unable to free itself from debt due to repeated flood disasters, and was forced to terminate the employment of some low-level samurai and to reduce the stipends of others. Ōsako Naoharu
was a general in the early Imperial Japanese Army. He was the older brother of General Ōsako Naomichi.Kowner, '' Historical Dictionary of the Russo-Japanese War'', p. 273. Biography Ōsako was born as the eldest son to Ōsako Shinzō, a samurai of Satsuma Domain (present day Kagoshima Prefecture). He graduated from the domain’s Soshikan academy, and fought as a Satsuma samurai during the Anglo-Satsuma War and the Boshin War. He joined the fledgling Imperial Japanese Army in March 1871, and was assigned to the Army Ministry from 1873 and promoted to captain in 1874. He was called to combat duty to fight against his fellow Satsuma clansmen in the Satsuma Rebellion, and was wounded during the siege of Kumamoto Castle.
