Empress Yang Zhi
Yang Zhi (楊芷) (259– 6 March 292), courtesy name Jilan (季蘭), nickname Nanyin (男胤), formally Empress Wudao (武悼皇后, literally "the martial and fearful empress") was an empress of Jin Dynasty (266–420). She was Emperor Wu of Jin, Emperor Wu's second wife and cousin to his first wife, Empress Yang Yan. Life as empress Not much is known about Yang Zhi's life before she married Emperor Wu. Before Empress Yang Yan died in 274, she was fearful that whoever became empress next would undermine her developmental disability, developmentally-disabled son Emperor Hui of Jin, Crown Prince Zhong's position as crown prince, and therefore she asked Emperor Wu to marry her cousin Yang Zhi after her death. Emperor Wu agreed and, in 276, married Yang Zhi and created her empress. Her father Yang Jun (3rd century), Yang Jun became a key official in the administration and became extremely arrogant. Nanguan Music
Nanguan (; also ''nanyin'', ''nanyue'', ''xianguan'', or ''nanqu'') is a style of Chinese classical music from the southern Chinese province of Fujian. It is also popular in Taiwan, particularly Lukang on west coast, as well as among Overseas Chinese in Southeast Asia. Fujian is a mountainous coastal province of China. Its provincial capital is Fuzhou, while Quanzhou was a major port in the 7th century CE, the period between the Sui and Tang eras. Situated upon an important maritime trade route, it was a conduit for elements of distant cultures. The result was what is now known as ''nanguan'' music, which today preserves many archaic features. It is a genre strongly associated with male-only community amateur musical associations ( quguan or "song-clubs"), each formerly generally linked to a particular temple, and is viewed as a polite accomplishment and a worthy social service, distinct from the world of professional entertainers. Cantonese ''naamyam'' (; Jyutping: naam4 jam1; pinyin: nányīn) is a unique local narrative singing tradition in Cantonese dialect/language, different from the ''nanyin'' (or ''nanguan'') tradition originating from southern Fujian. A singer would be engaged for a single performance or for regular performances over an extended period of time. Famous naamyam singers included Chung Tak (1860–1929), Dou Wun (; 1910–1979), Yuen Siu-fai and Au Kwan-cheung. History Common venues for performance included public places such as restaurants, teahouses, brothels, and opium dens, semi-public clubs and gathering places that catered to a particular trade or craft, such as butchers or rice merchants, and private households. ''Naamyam'' has rarely been performed in its traditional context since the middle of the twentieth century.
