Nantyffyllon RFC
Nantyffyllon Rugby Football Club is a rugby union team from the village of Nantyffyllon in Maesteg, Wales. The club is a member of the Welsh Rugby Union and is a feeder club for the Ospreys. The club fields a senior team which plays in the WRU National leagues, and also fields a second XV, youth and junior teams. Club history The clubs origins date back to the 1899/1900 season, playing under the name “All Whites”. The team subsequently changed their name in 1908 to “Nanty Stars”, and again to “Nantyffyllon Juniors RFC” in 1932. In 1963, a new field and clubhouse was opened in Blosse Street, named for Mr Lynch Blosse, from who the land for the original field was acquired. In 2007, an original feasibility study was conducted to assess the need for a new facility. The project was shelved for a number of years, but in the autumn of 2013, ground was broken on a new clubhouse and field redesign. The site was officially opened in a ceremony on Saturday 6 October. Maesteg
Maesteg is a town and community in Bridgend County Borough, Wales. Maesteg lies at the northernmost end of the Llynfi Valley, close to the border with Neath Port Talbot. In 2011, Maesteg had a population of 20,612. The English translation of Maesteg is 'fair field'. Historically a part of Glamorgan, the growth of the town started with the opening of ironworks in the 1820s, and 1830s. Once a coal mining area, the last pit closed in 1985. With the decline of the coal industry and, more recently, the closure of one large factory producing cosmetics and another manufacturing vehicle components, the valley has become a residential/dormitory area for the Port Talbot, Bridgend and Cardiff journey to work areas. 11% (1,867 out of 20,702) of the town's population speak Welsh with 27.9% of 3-15 year olds speaking the language. Rugby union in Wales is governed by the Welsh Rugby Union. The top level of Welsh rugby is represented by the regional sides, formed in 2003, who play in the United Rugby Championship (formerly the Celtic League, Pro12 or Pro14). Dunraven Brewery Field ( cy, Cae'r Bragdy Dunraven) is an 8,000 (1,100 seated) capacity sports stadium in Bridgend, Wales. It is the home ground of the rugby union team Bridgend Ravens. Bridgend Athletic RFC often use the ground for their home matches, as well as the Ospreys who sometimes play at the ground, including their age grade teams. Sports Rugby union Bridgend Ravens moved to The Brewery Field in 1920 after their former home, Quarella Ground, was acquired for building purposes. The club's first stay at the Brewery Field ended in the 1928/29 season, when the ground was purchased by a greyhound racing syndicate, who organised greyhound racing meetings from 1929 and was still active in 1932.
