Nang Rong, Buriram
Nang Rong ( th, นางรอง) is a town (''Thesaban Mueang'') of Buriram Province, north-eastern Thailand. History The first local government for Nang Rong was created in 1957, when it became a sanitary district ('' sukhaphiban''). On November 8, 1986, the sanitary district was upgraded to a subdistrict municipality (''thesaban tambon''), and effective August 3, 2005, it became a town (''thesaban mueang''). Geography Nang Rong is the central town of Nang Rong District, containing the district office and other government offices. It is the closest major town to the Phanom Rung Historical Park, an 11th-century religious site. The provinces of Thailand are part of the government of Thailand that is divided into 76 provinces ( th, จังหวัด, , ) proper and one special administrative area ( th, เขตปกครองส่วนท้องถิ่นรูปแบบพิเศษ), representing the capital Bangkok. Amphoe
An amphoe (sometimes also ''amphur'', th, อำเภอ, )—usually translated as "district"—is the second level administrative subdivision of Thailand. Groups of ''amphoe'' or districts make up the provinces, and are analogous to counties. The chief district officer is ''Nai Amphoe'' (). ''Amphoe'' are divided into ''tambons'', ( th, ตำบล), or sub-districts. Altogether Thailand has 928 districts, including the 50 districts of Bangkok, which are called '' khet'' (เขต) since the Bangkok administrative reform of 1972. The number of districts in provinces varies, from only three in the smallest provinces, up to the 50 urban districts of Bangkok. Also the sizes and population of districts differ greatly. Nang Rong ( th, นางรอง, ) is a district (''amphoe'') of Buriram province, northeastern Thailand. The district lies approximately 50 km south-southwest of Buriram City. Sukhaphiban
Sukhaphiban ( th, สุขาภิบาล ; translated as "sanitary district") were administrative divisions of Thailand. Sanitary districts were the first sub-autonomous entities established in Thailand. A first such district was created in Bangkok by a royal decree of King Chulalongkorn in 1897. The king had learned about the sanitary districts in England during his European trip earlier that year, and he wanted to try this local administration in his country as well. Tha Chalom District became the second such district, created in 1906 and responsible for parts of Mueang Samut Sakhon District, Samut Sakhon Province. In 1907 the act on operations of sanitary districts codified the regulations, and with the ''Local Administration Act'' of 1914 two levels of sukhaphiban were introduced, the ''sukhaphiban mueang'' for towns and ''sukhaphiban tambon'' for rural areas. Phanom Rung Historical Park
Phanom Rung ( th, พนมรุ้ง, ), or full name, Prasat Hin Phanom Rung ( th, ปราสาทหินพนมรุ้ง – ''Phanom Rung Stone Castle''), is a Hindu Khmer Empire temple complex set on the rim of an extinct volcano at elevation. It is located in Buriram Province in the Isan region of Thailand, and was built at a time when Khmer social-political influences were significant in Srisaket. It was built of sandstone and laterite between the 10th and 13th centuries. It was a Hindu shrine dedicated to Shiva, and symbolises Mount Kailash, his heavenly dwelling. The Phanom Rung sanctuary compound was constructed over several phases, dated by means of iconography of its art and architectural styles together with its inscriptions.
