Nanda (surname)
Nanda is an Indian surname. It is found among the Punjabi Khatris. The Nanda Khatris have produced a lineage of governors in Eminabad. They have also given various prime ministers in Jammu-Kashmir state. Jawala Sahai, a notable revenue officer of Maharaja Ranjit Singh and an official of Raja Gulab Singh at the Lahore Darbar belonged to a Nanda Khatri family. Many Nanda Khatris were also settled in Ludhiana prior to the partition of India. A Nanda Khatri called Suthre Shah from Baramulla, Kashmir founded the sect of Suthra. He was a disciple of Guru Hargobind. Khatri
Khatri is a caste of the Indian subcontinent that is predominantly found in India, but also in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Har Prasad Nanda
Har Prasad Nanda (9 January 1917 – 13 April 1999), also spelled Har Parshad Nanda, was an Indian automotive industrialist and the founder of Escorts Group. Career Born in Lahore (modern-day Pakistan) in British India, H.P Nanda came to Delhi after India's independence in 1947 with 5,000 INR and two cars. He had started the company as an ''agency'' in Lahore in 1944. In 1949, he took the franchise of Massey Ferguson tractors and by 1959, he was manufacturing tractors with technological help from Ursus Factory of Poland. He stepped down as the chairman in 1994. Serena Nanda is an American author, anthropologist, and professor emeritus. She received the Ruth Benedict Prize in 1990 for her monograph, ''Neither Man nor Woman: The Hijras of India''. Admiral Sardarilal Mathradas 'Charles' Nanda (Punjabi: ), PVSM, AVSM (10 October 1915 – 11 May 2009) was an Indian Navy admiral who served as the 7th Chief of the Naval Staff from 1 March 1970 until 28 February 1973.
