Nancy Tembo
Nancy Tembo is a Malawian politician and serves as Minister of Foreign Affairs (Malawi), Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Malawi government, Malawi Government since 2022. She is also a Member of parliament, Member of Parliament (MP) representing Lilongwe City South West constituency in the National Assembly of the Republic of Malawi. She ran as an independent candidate after a bungled 2018 Malawi Congress Party (MCP) primary election and went on to secure a landslide victory in the 2019 Malawian general election. She was the voice of the MCP (then the main opposition party) during the Bingu wa Mutharika Presidency (2009-2012). She was detained and badly beaten along with protest leaders such as Billy Mayaya and Undule Mwakasungula during the infamous 2011 Malawian protests, Protests on July 20, 2011 where 22 people were killed by security forces. Tonse Alliance
Tonse is a combined village, which include Tonse West and Tonse East situated about from Udupi on the western coast of South India, between the Arabian Sea and Western Ghats. Tonse village is about to the north of Mangalore. Location Tonse is bounded on its western side the Arabian Sea while on the eastern side the Suvarna river runs, creating a number of islands in its delta before it finally merges with the sea at Kodibengre. Tourism Towards the northern tip of Tonse there is Kodi Bengre where Suvarna river flows into Arabian Sea. This creates a delta with numerous islands known as Kuduru. This is popularly known as "Delta Beach". Bengre is a thin strip of land almost 4 km long and holds back the sea on the west and the river on the east. The United Transformation Movement (UTM) is a political party in Malawi founded by Saulos Chilima, Vice President of Malawi. History On 21 July 2018, Saulos Chilima launched his transformation movement called United Transformation Movement (UTM) towards formation of his political party to contest in May 2019 elections. On 1 February 2019 Chilima's UTM held meetings with two other political parties and an alliance of smaller political parties aimed at forming a united opposition. The other parties to the discussion were the Alliance for Democracy (Aford), former Malawi President Joyce Banda's Peoples Party, and the Tikonze People's Movement led by former Vice President Cassim Chilumpha. Peter Mutharika
Arthur Peter Mutharika (born 18 July 1940) is a Malawian politician and lawyer who was President of Malawi from May 2014 to June 2020. Mutharika has worked in the field of international justice, specialising in international economic law, international law and comparative constitutional law. He informally served as an adviser to his older brother, President Bingu wa Mutharika, on issues of foreign and domestic policy from the onset of his election campaign until the President's death on 5 April 2012. He has also held positions as Minister of Justice and later as Minister for Education, Science and Technology. Mutharika also served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2011 to 2012. The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is a political party in Malawi. The party was formed in February 2005 by Malawian President Bingu wa Mutharika after a dispute with the United Democratic Front (UDF), which was led by his predecessor, Bakili Muluzi. History The DPP party is an offshoot of the United Democratic Front. The UDF was formed by Bingu wa Mutharika and Bakili Muluzi and came to power in 1994 under Muluzi. After Muluzi's two terms were over, Mutharika succeeded him as head of the party and nation. However, Muluzi remained involved in running the party; therefore Mutharika formed his own party, the Democratic Progressive Party, in early 2005. Many UDF members defected to the new DPP party. 2004 Malawian General Election
General elections were held in Malawi on 20 May 2004 to elect a President and the National Assembly. The election had originally been scheduled for 18 May but was postponed for two days in response to opposition complaints of irregularities in the voter roll. By 22 May no results had been announced, leading to protests from the opposition and threats of disorder. On 25 May the Malawi Electoral Commission finally announced the results of the election. Bingu wa Mutharika, the candidate of the ruling United Democratic Front, was declared the winner of the presidential poll, whilst the Malawi Congress Party had won most seats in the National Assembly vote.
