Nancegollan railway station located in Nancegollan, Cornwall served an important agricultural district and was also the railhead for the fishing port of Porthleven. History The station opened on 9 May 1887 when the Helston Railway opened the line between and on the Great Western Railway mainline to . The line was operated by the Great Western Railway and absorbed by that company on 2 August 1898. Originally it had a single passenger platform on the upside and a goods loop without a platform; the connections were operated by a ground frame. In 1937 the facilities were considerably extended, with a full crossing facility for passenger trains and longer platforms on both lines, as well as a loop line behind the up platform and a large goods yard. Nancegollan
Nancegollan ( kw, Nansigolen) is a village in the civil parish of Crowan in west Cornwall, England. Nancegollan is on the B3303 road and south-east of Leedstown. The railway line from Helston to Hayle passed through the village (closed in 1964). Nancegollan station was the largest of the four stations on the branch. On Polcrebo Downs is the engine house of the Polcrebo Mine which was reopened in 1882 and still working in the 1890s; but is of very ancient origin. The British Rail Class 22 or "Baby Warship" was a class of diesel-hydraulic locomotives designed for the Western Region of British Railways and built by the North British Locomotive Company. They were very similar in appearance to the Class 21 diesel-electrics. The Great Western Railway (GWR) GWR 5100 Class (known as the 3100 class between 1912 and 1927) was a class of 2-6-2T side tank steam locomotives. It was the first of a series of broadly similar classes used principally for suburban passenger services. GWR 4300 Class
The Great Western Railway (GWR) 4300 Class is a class of 2-6-0 (mogul) steam locomotives, designed by G.J. Churchward for mixed traffic duties. 342 were built from 1911–1932. Background In 1906 Churchward fitted a more powerful Standard No. 4 boiler to his successful 3100 Class 2-6-2T to create the GWR 3150 Class. These showed themselves to be successful locomotives but their weight and water capacity meant that they tended to be restricted to suburban passenger traffic. St Germans, Cornwall
St Germans ( kw, Lannaled) is a village and civil parish in east Cornwall, England. It stands on the River Tiddy, just upstream of where that river joins the River Lynher; the water way from St Germans to the Hamoaze is also known as St Germans River.
