Name The Man
''Name the Man'' is a surviving 1924 American silent drama film directed by Victor Sjöström and starring Mae Busch. It was produced and distributed by Goldwyn Pictures in association with Cosmopolitan Productions. Plot Arriving home late one evening Bessie is turned out of her home by her stepfather Dan Collister. She has nowhere to go. Bessie is befriended by Victor Stowell, son of the Deemster or Judge of the Isle of Man. Victor is engaged to Fenella Stanley, the daughter of the Island's governor. Bessie stays the night in Victor's apartments. Victor's best friend Alick Gell, tells Victor of his love for Bessie. Victor sees an opportunity for ending his affair with Bessie. Victor's father dies and he succeeds him as Deemster. Later Bessie is arrested and tried for killing her child. The judge trying the case is Victor, the child's father. Victor Sjöström
Victor David Sjöström (; 20 September 1879 – 3 January 1960), also known in the United States as Victor Seastrom, was a pioneering Swedish film director, screenwriter, and actor. He began his career in Sweden, before moving to Hollywood in 1924. Sjöström worked primarily in the silent era; his best known films include ''The Phantom Carriage'' (1921), ''He Who Gets Slapped'' (1924), and '' The Wind'' (1928). Sjöström was Sweden's most prominent director in the "Golden Age of Silent Film" in Europe. Later in life, he played the leading role in Ingmar Bergman's '' Wild Strawberries'' (1957). CINEMATEK (Dutch: Koninklijk Belgisch Filmarchief; French: Cinémathèque royale de Belgique; English: Royal Belgian Film Archive) is a film archive in Brussels, Belgium. The archive was established in 1938 under the name Royal Belgian Film Archive by Henri Storck, André Thirifays, and Piet Vermeylen. Its collection include works on film by Man Ray, Duchamp and Léger. As of 2018, the archive held 47,726 films and over a hundred-thousand film materials, with over eight thousand of the items originating from Belgium. The challenges associated with managing the collection were discussed in a 2001 article by Gabrielle Claes who served as director of the archive from 1988 until 2011. Cinematek led the organization of the EXPRMNTL film festival which was run four times: 1949, 1958, 1963, 1967, and 1974. Andrew Arbuckle (September 5, 1887 – September 21, 1938) was an American stage and film actor. He was the brother of Macklyn Arbuckle and cousin of Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle. Early life Arbuckle was born in Galveston, Texas, to a family of Scottish descent. His brother Macklyn was 20 years old at the time of Andrew's birth. Career Arbuckle first made his film debut in '' Little Mary Sunshine'' (1916), playing Bob's father. In 1935, he made his last appearance in film '' The Dark Angel'' in an uncredited role as Mr. Gallop. He appeared in a total 44 films, uncredited in ten of them. Charles Hill Mailes (25 May 1870 – 17 February 1937) was a Canadian actor of the silent era. Biography Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in 1870, Mailes appeared in 290 films between 1909 and 1935. Lucien Littlefield (August 16, 1895 – June 4, 1960) was an American actor who achieved a long career from silent films to the television era. He was noted for his versatility, playing a wide range of roles and already portraying old men before he was of voting age. Life and career Lucien Littlefield was born in San Antonio, Texas and attended Staunton Military Academy. He started his movie career in 1913 and worked as an actor until his death in 1960. He usually portrayed comedic supporting characters, often much older than himself. His role of the doctor in '' The Cat and the Canary'' (1927) is one of his more notable performances.
