CFB Edmonton (also called 3rd Canadian Division Support Base Edmonton) is a Canadian Forces base located in Sturgeon County adjacent to the City of Edmonton in Alberta, Canada. It is also known as Edmonton Garrison or "Steele Barracks". History The history of CFB Edmonton begins at an airfield called Blatchford Field, a few kilometres south from where CFB Edmonton would eventually be established. The airfield was established in 1927 as a private and commercial interest by bush pilots, with support from the Mayor of Edmonton, airfield namesake Kenny Blatchford, opening a few months after he ended his term as mayor with his election as a Member of Parliament representing the city. The airfield became important to the opening up and development of the Canadian north, while also cementing Edmonton's place as the "Gateway to the North". Namao, Alberta
Namao () is a hamlet in central Alberta, Canada within Sturgeon County. It is located at the intersection of Highway 37 and Highway 28, approximately north of Edmonton's city limits. It was the namesake of RCAF Station Namao, now CFB Edmonton, which is directly south of the hamlet. History On August 22, 1891, the Edmonton Bulletin reported that, "The Sturgeon river settlers had been requesting a post office since May 3, 1884. They had wanted to call it Wilson Valley at first, then Sturgeon and finally Naoma (Namao)." It opened on April 12, 1892. According to Wilfred McLean, Dan cKinley, who took up one of the first Sturgeon homesteads in the early 1880sinsisted on the name; " ehad associated with the Indians for quite a few years and knew quite a few Cree words.", The name is derived from the Cree word (), meaning "sturgeon". On May 19, 1892, Postmaster J. Johnstone wrote that Nemao' is the correct spelling of the name of the post office in the Sturgeon river settlement. ...

Namao Ridge and Sturgeon View Estates is an unincorporated community in Alberta, Canada within Sturgeon County that is recognized as a designated place by Statistics Canada. It is located on the south side of Township Road 554, east of Highway 28. Between 2001 and 2021, Statistics Canada referred to Namao Ridge and Sturgeon View Estates as Namao, which was also the name of the nearby Hamlet of Namao to the south. This designated place consists of two country residential subdivisions – Namao Ridge and Sturgeon View Estates. Namao Ridge, or Namao Ridge Estates, and Sturgeon View Estates were separate designated places in 2001.
