Namaa Alward
Namaa Alward (born 11 November 1953) is an Iraqi actress and political activist who is well known in Iraq. She was forced to flee her homeland in the 1980s and sought refugee status in Norway, along with her two sons. Alward was highly active in the resistance movement against Saddam Hussein in the 1970s and 1980s. Namaa comes from a Shi'a family. She also has two Sunni brothers-in-law. She also has family back home in Baghdad. When questioned about US policy and the recent US-led invasion of Iraq, she replied, ''"Let them end the sanctions, stop this crazy war and allow us Iraqis sort out our own problems."'' She currently works in theater and film along with participating in numerous humanitarian organisations. The Human Shield Action to Iraq was a group of people who traveled to Ba'athist Iraq, Iraq to act as human shields with the aim of preventing the U.S.-led Coalition of the willing, coalition forces from bombing certain locations during the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Chronology In December 2002, Kenneth O'Keefe, an ex-United States Marine Corps, U.S. marine and Gulf War, Persian Gulf War veteran who had attempted multiple times to renounce his U.S. citizenship, posted a call to action for large numbers of western citizens to migrate to Iraq and deploy themselves as "Human Shields". Shia Islam in Iraq ( ar, الشيعة في العراق) has a history going back to the times of Ali ibn Abi Talib, the first imam of Shia Islam and fourth caliph of Sunni Islam who moved the capital of the early caliphate from Medina to Kufa (or Najaf) two decades after the death of Muhammad.
