Nam Cheong Street
Nam Cheong Street ( zh, 南昌街) is a street in Shek Kip Mei and Sham Shui Po, Sham Shui Po District, Kowloon, Hong Kong. It begins in the north at Lung Ping Road and Yan Ping Road in Shek Kip Mei and terminates in the south at Tung Chau Street and Boundary Street in Sham Shui Po. Name Nam Cheong Street takes its name from Nanchang, a city in China. Most streets in Sham Shui Po are named after Chinese cities. There are speculations about its origins. One of them suggest that it may had been from Chan Nam Chong. A section of Nam Cheong Street at Ki Lung Street has wholesale, retail, ribbon, and zipper shops. Therefore, it is called ''lace street''. Sham Shui Po
Sham Shui Po is an area of Kowloon, Hong Kong, situated in the northwestern part of the Kowloon Peninsula, north of Tai Kok Tsui, east of Cheung Sha Wan and south of Shek Kip Mei (). It is located in and is the namesake of the Sham Shui Po District. A predominately lower-income neighborhood, Sham Shui Po is one of the densest and most vibrant neighbourhoods in Hong Kong. It has a diverse mix of migrants from rural China, working-class families and seniors, with many living in cage homes, subdivided flats and public housing estates. Shek Kip Mei
Shek Kip Mei, is an area in New Kowloon, to the northeast of the Kowloon Peninsula of Hong Kong. It borders Sham Shui Po and Kowloon Tong. History At the time of the 1911 census, the population of Shek Kip Mei was 72. A major fire on 25 December 1953 destroyed the Shek Kip Mei shanty town of immigrants from Mainland China who had fled to Hong Kong, leaving 53,000 people homeless. After the fire, the governor Alexander Grantham launched a public housing programme to introduce the idea of multi-storey building for the immigrant population living there. The standardised new structures offered fire- and flood-resistant construction to previously vulnerable hut dwellers. The programme involved demolishing the rest of the makeshift houses left untouched by the fire, and the construction of the Shek Kip Mei Low-cost Housing Estate in their stead. Antiquities Advisory Board
The Antiquities Advisory Board (AAB) is a statutory body of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region with the responsibility of advising the Antiquities Authority on any matters relating to antiquities and monuments. The AAB was established in 1976 along with the Antiquities and Monuments Office (AMO) when the Antiquities and Monuments Ordinance (Cap. 53) was enacted, and comprises members appointed by the Chief Executive. Nam Cheong Park
The Nam Cheong Park is an urban park in the Sham Shui Po area of Kowloon, Hong Kong. The park is managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. It is located near Nam Cheong station, Nam Cheong Estate, and Tung Chau Street Park. History The park is built on land reclaimed in the 1990s as part of the Airport Core Programme. The site was zoned "District Open Space" to act as a buffer zone between Nam Cheong Estate and the West Kowloon Highway. This is similar to Lai Chi Kok Park, which acts as a buffer zone between the highway and Mei Foo Sun Chuen and which was developed at the same time. The park opened in July 1998. In the early 2000s, half the park was occupied by West Rail line construction. More recently much of the park has been occupied by temporary works areas for the Express Rail Link. Nam Cheong Station
Nam Cheong is a MTR interchange station located at ground level beneath West Kowloon Highway, in Sham Shui Po, Hong Kong opposite the Fu Cheong Estate. It is served by the Tung Chung and Tuen Ma lines and provides cross-platform interchange between platform 1 (Tuen Ma line towards Tuen Mun) and platform 4 (Tung Chung line towards Hong Kong). The livery of Nam Cheong station is pale yellow green. Nam Cheong station was originally the southern terminus of the West Rail line before the opening of Kowloon Southern Link on 16 August 2009. The passes between the tracks of the Tung Chung line without stopping at this station. Nam Cheong Estate () is a public housing estate in Sham Shui Po, Kowloon, Hong Kong near Nam Cheong Park, Tung Chau Street Park and MTR Nam Cheong station. It is named from nearby Nam Cheong Street, a main street in Sham Shui Po District. It consists of seven residential blocks completed in 1989. In 2005, the estate was sold to tenants through Tenants Purchase Scheme Phase 6B. Houses Demographics According to the 2016 by-census, Nam Cheong Estate had a population of 4,847.
