Nalin Perera (singer)
Nalin Perera (born 15 October 1969) is a Sri Lankan singer, songwriter, and composer. A popular musician, he founded the band Marians in 1988 which has become one of popular bands in Sri Lanka. Mahabaduge Nalin Anjelo Perera was born on 15 October 1969 in Chilaw to Christopher Perera and Miriam Perera, he was the eldest of five siblings. Perera was educated at St. Mary's College, Chilaw. Inspired by Sunil Perera, young Nalin joined the group Nightingales as a vocalist in 1985. In 1988, Nalin became the head prefect of his school and with the help of the school principal Rev. Bro. Alosious, he formed the band with his school friends and named it "Marians". The first concert of the Marians was held on 11 February 1988 at Sudasuna auditorium. In the 1990s he began collaborating with other local bands such as the Gypsies and Sunflowers and Marians became popular. Chilaw
Chilaw ( si, හලාවත, translit=Halāvata, ta, சிலாபம், translit=Cilāpam) is a large town in Puttalam District, North Western Province, Sri Lanka. It is governed by an urban council. The town is located 80 kilometres away from Colombo via Negombo. Etymology The name Chilaw derives its name from its Tamil name ''Cilāpam'', meaning pearl fishery. Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cathedral The seat of the Chilaw Diocese, this cathedral has a history of more than two centuries. According to legend, 200 years ago, most of what is now Chilaw Town was covered by a forest. A woman was searching for firewood and heard the sound of a lady speaking, "Please take me". She stopped her work and searched for the source of the sound. A statue of Mother Mary was on a tree. Sunil Perera
Uswatta Liyanage Ivor Sylvester Sunil Perera ( Sinhala: සුනිල් පෙරේරා; 14 September 1952 – 6 September 2021) was a Sri Lankan vocalist, guitarist, songwriter and composer. Described as one of the most influential musicians in Sri Lankan music history, Perera was the leader and the lead vocalist of The Gypsies. He was associated with Sri Lanka's baila genre, and gained the nickname "Baila Chakravarthy". Personal life Perera was born on 14 September 1952, in a family with ten siblings. His father, Anton Perera, was in the military before becoming a musician and forming the original Gypsies band. Anton was a clerk at the government Postal Department and also run a sweet production company called "Glucorasa". His mother was Dorine Perera. He started his education at St. Sebastian's College, Moratuwa until grade four and then until finishing school in the St Peter's College, Colombo. Sirasa TV is a digital, terrestrial television network in Sri Lanka. It is the sister channel of ' TV One' (Previously MTV Channel and MTV Sports) which was established in 1992. Sirasa TV was started in 1998 as a sister to its radio network Sirasa FM. Sirasa TV is owned by the Sri Lankan business conglomerate, Capital Maharaja Group together with Gregson Holdings Ltd. Since then, another multi-national company - International Media Management - has also invested in MTV. It broadcasts its programs mainly in Sinhala.
