Najeen
Najeen is a loose collective of Iraqi actors, artists and filmmakers that formed in 1991 in the wake of the Gulf War, Persian Gulf War. Before the Iraq War began in 2003, the group produced their projects mostly underground to avoid coming under the eye of the Baath Party's Ministry of Culture, whose approval was necessary for public works of art. After the American invasion of Iraq and the fall of the Baath Party, Najeen produced a short series of highly visible art projects. Oday Rasheed
Oday Rasheed ( Arabic:عدي رشيد born June 17, 1973) is an Arab-American film director, screenwriter and producer born and raised in Baghdad, Iraq. Rasheed immigrated to New York City in 2012. He has been living and working in Los Angeles since 2022. Rasheed's film debut Underexposure (2005) was “billed as the first feature shot in occupied Baghdad” after the U.S. Invasion of Iraq in 2003 where "Oday Rasheed has taken the term 'guerilla filmmaking' to a whole new level," according to Variety Magazine. Life Oday Rasheed was born in Baghdad, Iraq. After graduating from high school, he attended but did not graduate from the Institute for Electrical Science, the Institute for Applicable Art and the Faculty for Fine Arts in Baghdad. Gulf War
The Gulf War was a 1990–1991 armed campaign waged by a 35-country military coalition in response to the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. Underexposure (2005 Film)
''Underexposure'' is a 2005 Iraqi film, in the docufiction style, written and directed by Oday Rasheed, produced by Enlil Film and Arts. The story follows a fictional Iraqi film crew, inspired by the actual crew, that struggles with making a film during the 2003 invasion of Iraq and subsequent American occupation. It was the first feature film to be shot in Iraq after the beginning of the Iraq War. Plot summary The title ''Underexposure'' is not only a reference to the expired film stock on which the movie was filmed, but a commentary on the lives of a generation of Iraqis who grew up during the Iraq embargo, isolated from the world. In ''Underexposure'', a fictional film crew copes with the frustration and fear of the Iraq War in Baghdad by making a movie.
