The Eurovision Song Contest 1994 was the second time that Estonia had attempted to enter the contest, having failed to qualify from the semi-final stage of the Eurovision Song Contest 1993. The pre-selection process featured multiple artists for the first time, with Silvi Vrait's "Nagu merelaine" being selected by the judging panel to represent the nation in Ireland. In the contest, however, Vrait would place 24th second and last, receiving only two points in the scoring process and only beating fellow Baltic nation Lithuania. Before Eurovision Eurolaul 1994 The final took place in Tallinn, Estonia on 26 February 1994, and was hosted by Reet Oja and Guido Kangur. Silvi Vrait
Silvi Vrait (28 April 1951 – 28 June 2013) was an Estonian singer and music teacher. Biography Vrait was born in Kehra in 1951 to Einar "Edward" Wright, a Minnesota-born American of Finland, Finnish ancestry and his Estonian wife Senta (née Schönberg). She had a half-sister, Pille, five years her senior. Vrait graduated from the Kehra Music School in 1968 on piano. In 1974 she graduated from the University of Tartu with a degree in English philology. From 1994, she taught English in a secondary school in Tallinn. Vrait coached vocalists, Evelin Samuel and Kaire Vilgats among many at the Georg Ots Music School in Tallinn. Stage career Silvi Vrait first appeared on stage in 1972 when she performed in a TV show. She was a member of several pop and rock musical ensembles, including Viker 5, Suuk, Initsiaal and in 1975, she joined the popular band Fix. Heidy Tamme
Heidy Tamme (also known as Heidi Tamme, Heidy Laanemäe; born on 5 April 1943) is an Estonian estrada, chamber and pop singer whose career began in the early 1960s.Estonian Encyclopedia. 2000. Volume 14, page 513 Tamme was born in Ulyanovsk, Russia to Estonian parents. The family returned to Estonia when she was young. She attended primary and secondary schools in Tallinn. In 1964, she graduated from the Tallinn Music School with a degree in choir and orchestra conducting and from the Tallinn Conservatory in 1966, studying music under tutelage of Uno Naissoo. From 1967 to 1983, she was a soloist for the Estonian Philharmonic. Estonia In The Eurovision Song Contest
Estonia has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 27 times since making its debut in 1994. Its first appearance would have taken place in 1993 but a qualification round was installed for seven former Eastern Bloc countries hoping to make their debut in the contest, with Estonia failing to qualify. Estonia has won the contest once, in 2001. Estonia's first participation in 1994 was unsuccessful, finishing 24th (out of 25). Urmas Lattikas
Urmas Lattikas (born 17 August 1960 in Tapa) is an Estonian composer and jazz pianist. In 1986, Ummi graduated from Tallinn State Conservatory in composition speciality. He completed his postgraduate studies (jazz composition, piano) at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, graduating in 1990. After returning to Estonia, he founded his own jazz quintet, with which he took part in the ''Jazzkaar 91'' festival and in 1992 released the album, ''Freedom To Love Freedom To Lose''. He increasingly worked as an arranger in the fields of pop, jazz and classical music. In 1994 he led the orchestra for the Estonian entry to the Eurovision Song Contest. Olari Elts
Olari Elts (born April 27, 1971 in Tallinn) is an Estonian conductor. He was the principal conductor of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra from 2001 to 2006. He is the founder and director of the contemporary music ensemble NYYD Ensemble. In September 2006 he took up the newly created position of Artistic Advisor of the Orchestre National de Bretagne. He was appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra from the beginning of the 2007–2008 season. Also in 2007, he was appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra. Ivo Linna (born 12 June 1949 in Kuressaare) is an Estonian singer. Eurovision Song Contest and Eesti Laul He represented Estonia alongside Maarja Liis Ilus in the Eurovision Song Contest 1996 in Oslo with the song " Kaelakee Hääl" (The Sound of a Necklace) which finished 5th at the contest. Indrek Sei (born 26 July 1972 in Tallinn) is a former freestyle swimmer from Estonia. He competed in three consecutive Summer Olympics for his native country, starting in 1992. Maian-Anna Kärmas (born Maian-Anna Kärmas, 25 February 1978 in Tallinn) is an Estonian singer, songwriter, and journalist. Kärmas had her debut as a soloist in 1995 at ''Kaks takti ette'', a contest for debutant singers, organized by Eesti Televisioon (ETV). She placed 2nd, losing to Tiiu Tulp. In 1998, Kärmas participated in Eurolaul, the Estonian national final for the Eurovision Song Contest, where she provided backing vocals for " Unistus igavesest päevast", sung by Evelin Samuel. The year after she did the same and also wrote lyrics for " Diamond of Night" that went on to represent Estonia at the Eurovision, held in Jerusalem.
