Nagerbazar is a locality of North 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is close to Kolkata and also a part of the area covered by Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA). History Clive House is located on Rastraguru Avenue at Ramgarh, Nagerbazar. It is mired in controversy. It is thought of as the first ''pucca'' brick and cement building in the Northern fringes of Kolkata, possibly built by the Portuguese. Now, some people are saying that it was the hunting lodge of an Indian prince or noble man (and so where was the jungle?) What is definitely known is that it was used by British soldiers when they first started coming into the country and then Robert Clive took it over, renovated it, added a floor to the single-storeyed building and made it his country house (Some people refer to it as his residence, which appears doubtful) around 1757-60. South Dumdum
South Dum Dum is a city and a municipality of North 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is close to Kolkata and also a part of the area covered by Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA). It is a city on the outskirts of North Kolkata with a municipality called South Dum Dum municipality. It is well connected to the developed part of the city through railways and roads. It is very near to Shyambazar (epicenter of North Kolkata), Airport, Newtown (the IT hub of Kolkata), Esplanade (the employment hub of Kolkata and central business district) by urban railways. Dum Dum is a city and a municipality of Kolkata district in the Indian state of West Bengal. Etymology During the 19th century the area was home to the Dum Dum Arsenal, a British Royal Artillery facility. Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport is an international airport located in Kolkata, West Bengal, India, serving the Kolkata Metropolitan Area and is the aviation hub for eastern and northeastern India. The airport is locally known as Kolkata Airport and Dum Dum Airport before being renamed in 1995 after Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, a prominent leader of the Indian independence movement. Jessore Road
Jessore Road is a road connecting Shyambazar through Dum Dum, both neighbourhoods in Kolkata, India, to Jessore in Bangladesh. While the Dum Dum-Barasat sector is now part of NH 12, the Barasat-Petrapole sector is now part of NH 112. It continues in Bangladesh as N706 from Benapole to Jessore. The road acts as a major link between places in and around Kolkata, especially Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport and Barasat. The road meets commuter (suburban) rail link at Barasat Junction railway station. Metro stations on this road include Shyambazar and Belgachia. Dum Dum is a Kolkata Suburban Railway junction station on the Sealdah–Ranaghat line. Sena Dynasty
The Sena dynasty was a Hindu dynasty during the early medieval period on the Indian subcontinent, that ruled from Bengal through the 11th and 12th centuries. The empire at its peak covered much of the north-eastern region of the Indian subcontinent. The rulers of the Sena Dynasty traced their origin to the south Indian region of Karnataka. The dynasty's founder was Samanta Sena. After him came Hemanta Sena who usurped power and styled himself, king, in 1095 AD. His successor Vijaya Sena (ruled from 1096 AD to 1159 AD) helped lay the foundations of the dynasty, and had an unusually long reign of over 60 years. Robert Clive
Robert Clive, 1st Baron Clive, (29 September 1725 – 22 November 1774), also known as Clive of India, was the first British Governor of the Bengal Presidency. Clive has been widely credited for laying the foundation of the British East India Company rule in Bengal. He began as a writer (the term used then in India for an office clerk) for the East India Company (EIC) in 1744 and established Company rule in Bengal by winning the Battle of Plassey in 1757. In return for supporting the Nawab Mir Jafar as ruler of Bengal, Clive was granted a jagir of £30,000 () per year which was the rent the EIC would otherwise pay to the Nawab for their tax-farming concession. When Clive left India he had a fortune of £180,000 () which he remitted through the Dutch East India Company.
