Nagar River (Rajshahi)
Nagar River ( bn, নাগর নদ) begins in the Bogra District of Bangladesh and ends in Natore District. Early history The Nagar is a branch of the Karatoya and serves as the boundary between the Shibganj and Bogra thanas, for about . It then passes between the former and the Dhupchanchia Upazila and then Adamdighi down to the village of Champapur. It then turns off west wards and passing through the Dupchanchia thana enters Rajshahi district. It falls in the Atrai, at Singra Upazila in the Natore District. It is a tortuous river, and its whole length in this district, including the windings is about . On its banks are situated the important villages of Elahiganj and Dhupchanchia. Natore District
Natore district is a district of Rajshahi Division located in northern Bangladesh. It borders the metropolitan city of Rajshahi, and used to be part of Rajshahi district. History Natore was the District Headquarters of Rajshahi from 1769 to 1825. Administrative Natore subdivision was established in 1825 under Rajshahi district, on the eve of the shifting of the headquarters. During the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971, a battle was fought between the Pakistani army and the freedom fighters of Mukti Bahini on March 29. About 40 members of the Pakistani army including Major Aslam and Captain Ishaq were killed. On 5 May 1971 Pakistani Army killed 42 employees of North Bengal Sugar Mills ( Lalpur) including the general manager of the mill, Lieutenant Anwarul Azim. Asiatic Society Of Bangladesh
The Asiatic Society of Bangladesh is a non political and non profit research organisation registered under both Society Act of 1864 and NGO Bureau, Government of Bangladesh. The Asiatic Society of Bangladesh was established as the Asiatic Society of East Pakistan in Dhaka in 1952 by a number of Muslim leaders, and renamed in 1972. Ahmed Hasan Dani, a noted Muslim historian and archaeologist of Pakistan played an important role in founding this society. He was assisted by Muhammad Shahidullah, a Bengali linguist. Karatoya River
Karatoya River (also spelt Korotoa River) is a small stream in Rajshahi Division of Bangladesh. Etymology The name of the river is formed of two Sanskrit words ''kar'' (hand) and ''toa'' (water). Course The Karatoya, known as Phuljhur rises in the Baikunthapur jungles in the extreme north-west of Jalpaiguri district (West Bengal, India) and forms for some distance the boundary between Dinajpur and Rangpur districts. It, then, meanders through Rangpur and Bogura. In the south of Bogura district, it receives the Halhalia and the united stream is then known as Phuljhur. It leaves Bogura at Chanda kona and flowing in a southerly direction past Raiganj and Shujapur is joined by the Ichhamati at Nalka. Shibganj Upazila ( bn, শিবগঞ্জ উপজেলা) is an upazila of Bogra District in the Division of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. The upazila was created in 1983. It is named after its administrative center, the town of Shibganj. Geography Shibganj Upazila has a total area of . It is the northernmost upazila of Bogra District. Adamdighi
Adamdighi Upazila ( bn, আদমদিঘী উপজেলা) is an upazila of Bogra District in the Division of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. Adamdighi Thana was established in 1821 and was converted into an upazila in 1983. It is named after its administrative center, the town of Adamdighi. The name derives from Adam's Dighi, which means Adam's Tank. Adam was a great Muslim saint or dervish, known as Baba Adam ( bn, বাবা আদম). Etymology Baba Adam is very popular among the people of the locality, and commands as much respect from Hindus as from Muslims. Baba Adam is said to have been a contemporary of the famous Rani Bhabani (1716–1795) of Natore, who it is said, with her characteristics magnanimity had a tank dug at the place and dedicated it to the saintly '' fakir'' in honour of his supernatural powers. Atrai River (also spelt as Atreyee) ( bn, আত্রাই/আত্রেয়ী নদী) flows in West Bengal and northern parts of Bangladesh. Singra ( bn, সিংড়া) is an upazila of Natore District in the Division of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. History The area was governed by the Zamindars of Bengal and Natore, under the Rajshahi Raj family and the Dighapatia Raj families from the 1700s to the mid-1800s, and then under the Singranatore family from the late 1800s till 1951 when the Zamindari system was abolished by Pakistan.
