Nafas (film)
''Breath'' ( fa, نفس ; Nafas) is a 2016 Iranian fantasy drama film directed by Narges Abyar. It was selected as the Iranian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 90th Academy Awards, but it was not nominated. Plot Little Bahar lives a life spun from folklore and stories, always with her head in a book. But growing up in Yazd in the 1970s and ’80s, she's at the centre of a country in turmoil: the Shah is overthrown, Ayatollah Khomeini rises to power, and the first shots are fired in a bitter and protracted war with Iraq. Over the span of several years, Bahar finds daydreaming in her own fantasy world is the only way she can make sense of the pain and suffering warring humans inflict on one another. Narges Abyar ( fa, نرگس آبیار, born 8 August 1970) is an Iranian film director, author and screenwriter, best known for directing '' Track 143'', ''Breath'', and ''When the Moon Was Full''. The film Track 143 is adapted from Abyar's novel titled ''The Third Eye'' narrating the story of a woman and her son during the time of war. Her films sensitively picture the sufferings of women and children caused by the society, war or radicalism. Narges Abyar graduated in Persian literature; she started writing books in 1997. Iran has submitted films for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film regularly since 1994. Prior to the Islamic Revolution of 1979, Imperial Iran sent a single film in 1977. Iran has submitted a total of twenty-six films for Oscar consideration and three films, Majid Majidi's ''Children of Heaven'' and Asghar Farhadi's ''A Separation'' and '' The Salesman'', have received an Oscar nomination. This is a list of submissions to the 90th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has invited the film industries of various countries to submit their best film for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film every year since the award was created in 1956. The award is presented annually by the Academy to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. The Foreign Language Film Award Committee oversees the process and reviews all the submitted films. The submitted motion pictures must be first released theatrically in their respective countries between 1 October 2016 and 30 September 2017. The deadline for submissions was 2 October 2017, with the Academy announcing a list of eligible films on 5 October.
