Nadezhda Repina
Nadezhda Vasilyevna Repina () ( – ) was a Russian actress and singer (soprano). She was the daughter of a serf actor and musician in the troupe of a landlord called Stolypin, who in 1798 sold him to the Imperial troupe. Serf actors, once in the Imperial troupe, immediately were free people. So Nadezhda was born free. Vasily Repin became a musician in the orchestra of the Moscow Imperial troupe, and gave his daughter in 1816 at the Moscow Imperial theater college. Her musical and acting talent were noticed right away. She made her debut in several operas and vaudevilles in 1823. At this time the Moscow Imperial troupe not had its theaters – they all were burned. Performances were held in the homes of wealthy Muscovites. At the end of 1824, a rich merchant Vasily Vargin gave his house to the Moscow Imperial troupe – now this is Maly Theatre (Moscow), it was opened on 14 October 1824. ''Don Giovanni'' (; K. 527; Vienna (1788) title: , literally ''The Rake Punished, or Don Giovanni'') is an opera in two acts with music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart to an Italian libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte. Its subject is a centuries-old Spanish legend about a libertine as told by playwright Tirso de Molina in his 1630 play '' El burlador de Sevilla y convidado de piedra''. It is a ''dramma giocoso'' blending comedy, melodrama and supernatural elements (although the composer entered it into his catalogue simply as ''opera buffa''). It was premiered by the Prague Italian opera at the National Theater (of Bohemia), now called the Estates Theatre, on 29 October 1787. Woe From Wit
''Woe from Wit'' (, also translated as "The Woes of Wit", "Wit Works Woe", ''Wit's End'', and so forth) is Alexander Griboyedov's comedy in verse, satirizing the society of post-Napoleonic Moscow, or, as a high official in the play styled it, "a pasquinade on Moscow." The play, written in 1823 in the countryside and in Tiflis, was not passed by the censors for the stage, and only portions of it were allowed to appear in an almanac for 1825. But it was read out by the author to "all Moscow" and to "all Petersburg" and circulated in innumerable copies, so it was as good as published in 1825; it was not, however, actually published until 1833, after the author's death, with significant cuts, and was not published in full until 1861. The play was a compulsory work in Russian literature lessons in Soviet Union, Soviet schools, and is still considered a golden classic in modern Russia and other minority Russian-speaking countries. ''Askold's Grave'' (also: ''Askold's Tomb'', Russian language, Russian: ''Аскольдова могила'' – Askol’dova mogila) is an opera in four acts by Alexey Verstovsky with a libretto by Mikhail Zagoskin. It was the most successful of Verstovsky's six operas, and its popularity even overshadowed Mikhail Glinka, Glinka’s two operas. It is a romantic opera with spoken dialogue, influenced by Carl Maria von Weber, Weber's ''Der Freischütz'', the latter having become popular in Russia after its first Russian performance in 1824. The role of Torop was created specifically for Alexander Bantyshev. Performance history The directors of the Imperial Theatres paid 2,000 rubles to the composer for this opera.
