Nada, Texas
Nada is an unincorporated community in Colorado County, Texas, United States. It is located on State Highway 71 approximately midway between El Campo and Columbus. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had an estimated population of 165 in 2000. Geography Nada is situated along State Highway 71 in southern Colorado County about south of Garwood and south of Columbus. History The original name of the community was Vox Populi (Latin for "Voice of the People"). The present name is an Americanized version of the Czech word "naděje," meaning "hope." The ''Handbook of Texas'' is a comprehensive encyclopedia of Texas geography, history, and historical persons published by the Texas State Historical Association (TSHA). History The original ''Handbook'' was the brainchild of TSHA President Walter Prescott Webb of The University of Texas history department. It was published as a two-volume set in 1952, with a supplemental volume published in 1976. In 1996, the New Handbook of Texas was published, expanding the encyclopedia to six volumes and over 23,000 articles. Bernard Ferdinand Popp (December 6, 1917 – June 27, 2014) was an American bishop of the Roman Catholic Church. Popp was born in Nada, Texas in 1917. Hugo Mark Gerbermann
Hugo Mark Gerbermann, M.M. (September 11, 1913 - October 19, 1996) was an American-born Catholic missionary and bishop. As a member of the Catholic Foreign Mission Society of America (Maryknoll) he was assigned to missions in Ecuador and Guatemala. He served as the Prelate of the Territorial Prelature of Huehuetenango in Guatemala before becoming the first bishop of the Diocese of Huehuetenango from 1967 to 1975. He then served as an Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of San Antonio in the United States from 1975 to 1982. Early life and education Hugo Gerbermann was born in Nada, Texas, to John J. and Matilda H. Gerbermann and was one of eight children. Frelsburg, Texas
Frelsburg is an unincorporated community in Colorado County, Texas, United States. It lies at the intersection of Farm to Market Road 109 and Farm to Market Road 1291. The community was founded around 1837 by immigrants from Germany. It is home to one of the oldest surviving general stores in Texas. Continuously operated since 1865 and owned by the Heinsohn family since 1920, the store is called Heinsohn's Country Store.
