NWHL Most Valuable Player
Since 2016, the year of its inaugural season (which was then known as the NWHL), the Premier Hockey Federation (PHF) grants several annual awards to players in the league, including Most Valuable Player, Goaltender of the Year, Best Defender, Rookie/Newcomer of the Year, Denna Laing Award (formerly the Perseverance Award), Foundation Award, Leading Scorer Award, and the Fans' Three Stars of the Season. The award for Most Valuable Player is voted on by the Premier Hockey Federation Players' Association. Nominees for the Foundation Award are chosen by the Players Association and voted on by fans. Other awards are voted on a panel of journalists. Premier Hockey Federation
The Premier Hockey Federation (PHF), formerly the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL), is a women's professional ice hockey league located in the United States and Canada. The league was established in 2015 with four league-owned teams and has since grown to a mixture of seven independently owned teams: the Boston Pride, Buffalo Beauts, Connecticut Whale, Metropolitan Riveters, Minnesota Whitecaps, Montreal Force and Toronto Six. The Isobel Cup, the league's championship trophy, is awarded annually to the league playoff champion at the end of each season. Mikyla Grant-Mentis
Mikyla Grant-Mentis (born July 15, 1998) is a Canadian ice hockey forward, currently playing with the Buffalo Beauts of the Premier Hockey Federation (PHF). She is the all-time leading scorer of the Merrimack Warriors women's ice hockey team. In 2021, she became the first black player to win the PHF's Most Valuable Player award. Playing career Grant-Mentis played four years of NCAA Division I ice hockey with the Merrimack Warriors of Merrimack College, a member institution of the Hockey East conference, located in North Andover, Massachusetts. Elaine Chuli
Elaine Monica Chuli (born May 16, 1994) is a Canadian ice hockey goaltender, currently playing with the Toronto Six of the Premier Hockey Federation (PHF), formerly the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL). She played college ice hockey with the UConn Huskies and is the all-time saves leader for both the Hockey East (WHEA) conference and the Huskies program. Lovisa Selander (born 14 March 1996) is a Swedish ice hockey player for the Boston Pride in the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL) and the Swedish national team. She currently holds the record for women’s hockey NCAA Division I career saves as well as NWHL records for single-season wins and save percentage. Career Sweden Selander began playing as a goaltender at the age of six in her native Sweden, admiring Swedish Olympians Henrik Lundqvist and Kim Martin Hasson. Shannon Szabados
Shannon Lynn Szabados (; born August 6, 1986) is a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender for the PWHPA and the Canada women's national ice hockey team. Szabados had played for the MacEwan University Griffins and the NAIT Ooks men's hockey teams of the Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference from 2007 until 2013. Szabados has been the first female player at several different tournaments and in several leagues, including minor, junior, and professional hockey. While playing junior hockey, Szabados became the first female to appear in the Western Hockey League (WHL) where she played exhibition games for the Tri-City Americans. Amanda Leveille (born June 10, 1994) is a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender for the Minnesota Whitecaps of the Premier Hockey Federation (PHF). She currently holds the PHF record for all-time wins, and has won the Isobel Cup twice. New York Riveters
The Metropolitan Riveters (originally the New York Riveters) are a professional women's ice hockey team based in East Rutherford, New Jersey, with home games at the American Dream Meadowlands ice rink. They were one of the four charter franchises of the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL), now known as the Premier Hockey Federation (PHF). Its team name and logo are based upon Rosie the Riveter, the subject of the World War II-era motivational poster " We Can Do It!". Kathleen "Katie" Fitzgerald (born April 13, 1994) is an American ice hockey player who currently plays for the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association (PWHPA). She previously played for the Metropolitan Riveters in the Premier Hockey Federation (PHF). Having played NCAA hockey with the St. Cloud State Huskies, she was the first Husky to sign a contract in the PHF. Hayley Scamurra (born December 14, 1994) is a women's ice hockey player who currently plays internationally for the USA Women's Ice Hockey team, and previously played for the Buffalo Beauts of the Premier Hockey Federation (PHF). Before joining the Beauts, she played college ice hockey at Northeastern University, where she played for four seasons. She is the daughter of former Washington Capitals player Peter Scamurra. Hilary Atwood Knight (born July 12, 1989) is an American ice hockey forward with the PWHPA and the United States women's national ice hockey team. She previously played for the Les Canadiennes de Montreal of the CWHL and the Boston Pride of the NWHL, with whom she won the inaugural Isobel Cup. The Connecticut Whale are a professional ice hockey team based in the Premier Hockey Federation (PHF). They play in Simsbury, Connecticut at the International Skating Center of Connecticut.
