NRDC-ITA Support Brigade
The NRDC-ITA Support Brigade is one of two support brigades of the Italian Army. Originally raised on 1 October 2001 as Signal Brigade (renamed NRDC-ITA Support Brigade on 30 September 2007) the unit's mission since its inception has been to support the NATO-assigned Rapid Deployable Corps – Italy (NRDC-ITA). Unlike the multi-national staff of the NRDC-ITA the brigade is manned exclusively by Italian personnel. The brigade deployed to Afghanistan in 2006, 2009 and 2013. A commissariat is a department or organization commanded by a commissary or by a corps of commissaries. In many countries, commissary is a police rank. In those countries, a commissariat is a police station commanded by a commissary. In some armies, commissaries are logistic officers. Bersaglieri
The Bersaglieri, singular Bersagliere, (, "sharpshooter") are a troop of marksmen in the Italian Army's infantry corps. They were originally created by General Alessandro La Marmora on 18 June 1836 to serve in the Royal Sardinian Army, which later became the Royal Italian Army. They can be recognized by their distinctive wide-brimmed hats decorated with black capercaillie feathers, which is worn with the dress uniform. The feathers are also applied to their combat helmets. Description The Bersaglieri Corps were a high-mobility light infantry at their inception in 1836, with their specific situation evolving with changes in warfare. In 1906 the unit was formed in Rome as a detached brigade of the 3rd Engineer Regiment (Telegraphers) and tasked with training the army's wireless telegraphy personnel. In 1912 the unit was tasked to train the wireless telegraphy personnel of the Military Aviation Corps. In 1919 the battalion was expanded to Radio-Telegraphers Engineer Regiment, which in 1926 split to form the 1st Radio-Telegraphers Regiment and 2nd Radio-Telegraphers Regiment. Both regiment were disbanded in 1932. The unit was reformed in 1948 as a battalion. In 1950 the battalion was given number III, which had been used by two battalions active during World War II.
