NPG Music Club
NPG Music Club was the official website for Prince from 2001 to 2006, and was named after Prince's New Power Generation band. Based on being one of the first mainstream artists to use the internet as an independent music distribution hub, Prince won a Webby Lifetime Achievement Award for the site in 2006. Membership was either $7.77 for a Basic Monthly Membership or $99 for a Premium Annual Membership. Basic Monthly Membership entitled members to a minimum of three new Prince songs each month, often accompanied by corresponding music videos, and a free one-hour radio show (podcast) hosted by Prince and other NPG members. The podcasts featured music, commentary and original skits. Premium Annual Membership were additionally entitled to more downloads, preferred seating at all Prince concerts, and VIP passes to all after shows and parties. Prince Rogers Nelson (June 7, 1958April 21, 2016), more commonly known mononymously as Prince, was an American singer-songwriter, musician, and record producer. The recipient of numerous awards and nominations, he is widely regarded as one of the greatest musicians of his generation. The Webby Awards are awards for excellence on the Internet presented annually by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, a judging body composed of over two thousand industry experts and technology innovators. Categories include websites, advertising and media, online film and video, mobile sites and apps, and social. Rave In2 The Joy Fantastic
''Rave In2 the Joy Fantastic'' is a remix album by American recording artist Prince (musician), Prince, under the unpronounceable "Love Symbol", as shown on the album cover. It was released on April 29, 2001 by NPG Records and contains remixes of songs found on Prince's twenty-third studio album, ''Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic'' (1999). It was issued via mail exclusively through the NPG Music Club, an Internet subscription service; due to this circumstance, the album was not able to chart. The album is an alternative version of ''Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic'', containing 13 of the album's tracks, plus a previously unreleased track entitled "Beautiful Strange". Besides remixes of the mentioned tracks, ''Rave In2 the Joy Fantastic'' also contains several extended songs, plus a trimmed version of "Wherever U Go, Whatever U Do". One Nite Alone
''One Nite Alone...'' is the twenty-fifth studio album by American recording artist Prince. It was released on May 14, 2002 by NPG Records. Background It features him singing and accompanying himself on piano, making only occasional use of other instruments. It includes a cover of the Joni Mitchell classic, " A Case of You", retitled "A Case of U". Mitchell receives special thanks in the liner notes. It is also the first Prince album not to chart. One song that caused some controversy amongst fans is "Avalanche", which describes Abraham Lincoln as a racist. ''One Nite Alone...'' was given to members of the NPG Music Club, separately and included as a gift with his One Nite Alone...Live box set. It was never sold in stores, but bootlegs are available. For many years the primary way to hear the album was through MP3 file-sharing, and original CD copies are quite rare; in 2015, the album was released through Tidal. Xpectation
''Xpectation'' (subtitled "New Directions in Music By Prince") is the twenty-sixth studio album by American recording artist Prince. It was released on January 1, 2003, by NPG Records. It is the first instrumental album released under Prince's own name. Previously unannounced, it was released as an MP3 download on New Year's Day, 2003 to members of the NPG Music Club with no formal artwork, only two weeks after the commercial release of his previous album, '' One Nite Alone... Live!''. In 2004, ''Xpectation'' was released through the NPG Music Club's Musicology Download Store. The artwork by Sam Jennings was officially released in September 2015, when a digital lossless version was made available through music streaming service Tidal.
