The Suncorp Super Netball Young Star Award, also referred to as the Rookie of the Year or Rising Star, is an annual Suncorp Super Netball award in Australia. It is an award recognising the outstanding on-court achievements of a Suncorp Super Netball athlete. Previously to 2022, to be eligible for the award the netballer had to be aged under 23 years at the beginning of the season. However, the award was modified to remove the age criterion and instead acknowledge any player who has played at least five games in their first year in the league. Suncorp Super Netball is the top level netball league featuring teams from Australia. In 2017 it replaced the ANZ Championship, which also included teams from New Zealand, as the top level netball league in Australia. Giants Netball (stylised as GIANTS Netball) are an Australian netball team based in Greater Western Sydney, New South Wales. Since 2017 they have played in Suncorp Super Netball. Donnell Wallam
Donnell Wallam (born 23 January 1994) is an Australian netball player for the Queensland Firebirds. In October 2022, Wallam became the third Indigenous netballer to represent the Australian Diamonds following Marcia Ella and Sharon Finnan. Wallam, a Noongar woman, grew up Korijekup (Harvey), a small rural town two hours south of Perth. She played basketball before moving to netball. She travelled to Waroona to play netball and was encouraged by netball coach Daniel Cools to try out for the Western Australia Netball League (WANL) in December 2018. In 2019, her first year in the Western Australia Netball League playing for West Coast Warriors, she won the Jill McIntosh Medal and the League Player's Player of the Year. The 2022 Suncorp Super Netball season was the sixth season of the premier Netball in Australia, netball league in Australia. The season commenced on 26 March and concluded with the Grand Final on 3 July. The defending premiers were the New South Wales Swifts, who narrowly missed out on the finals series. The 2021 Suncorp Super Netball season was the fifth season of the premier netball league in Australia. The season commenced on 1 May and concluded on 28 August. The defending premiers were the Melbourne Vixens, but they failed to make the finals. The New South Wales Swifts won their second championship in three years, after defeating Giants Netball by 63–59 in the Grand Final. Adelaide Thunderbirds are an Australian netball team based in Adelaide, South Australia. Since 2017 they have played in Suncorp Super Netball. Between 2008 and 2016, they played in the ANZ Championship and between 1997 and 2007, they played in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy league. Thunderbirds have won four premierships. Maisie Nankivell (born 29 September 1999) is a dual sport athlete, who plays netball for the Adelaide Thunderbirds in the Suncorp Super Netball and has played Australian rules football for the Adelaide Football Club in the AFL Women's (AFLW). The 2020 Suncorp Super Netball season was the fourth season of the premier netball league in Australia. The season was originally scheduled to commence on 2 May, though was delayed to 1 August due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Amy Parmenter
Amy Parmenter (born 1 August 1997) is an Australian netball player in the Suncorp Super Netball league, playing for Giants Netball. Parmenter was elevated to the Giants senior ahead of the 2019 Suncorp Super Netball season, 2019 season, having been a training partner with Canberra Giants in the Australian Netball League for the previous two years. Before her time in the ANL, Parmenter represented Netball New South Wales and Australia at under 17/19 levels. The 2019 Suncorp Super Netball season was the third season of the premier netball league in Australia. The season began on 27 April and concluded on 15 September 2019, however it was suspended for most of the month of July due to the Netball World Cup, which was played in Liverpool.
