Nogometni klub Šmartno 1928 ( en, Šmartno 1928 Football Club), commonly referred to as NK Šmartno or simply Šmartno, is a Slovenian Association football, football club from Šmartno ob Paki which competes in the Slovenian Third League, the third highest league in Slovenia. The club emerged after the dissolution of NK Šmartno ob Paki, a team that played in the Slovenian PrvaLiga, Slovenian top division for several seasons before being dissolved. However, the new club that was founded in 2005 is legally not a successor of the dissolved club. The Football Association of Slovenia ( sl, Nogometna zveza Slovenije or NZS) is the governing body of football in Slovenia. It organizes the Slovenian PrvaLiga, first division (1. 2019–20 Slovenian Third League
The 2019–20 Slovenian Third League was the 28th edition of the Slovenian Third League. The season began on 24 August 2019 and was scheduled to end in June 2020. The competition was cancelled on 17 April 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Competition format and rules In the 2019–20 season, the Slovenian Third League was divided into two regional groups with a total of 26 participating clubs. The 2018–19 Slovenian Third League was the 27th edition of the Slovenian Third League. The season began on 17 August 2018 and ended on 2 June 2019. Competition format and rules In the 2018–19 season, the Slovenian Third League (3. SNL) was divided into four regional groups with a total of 38 participating clubs. The 2015–16 Slovenian Third League began on 22 August 2015 and ended on 29 May 2016 with playoffs being played on 4 and 8 June 2016. Competition format and rules The 2015–16 Slovenian Third League was divided into four regional groups with a total of 52 participating clubs. The winners of the regular season in each group played a promotional two-legged play-offs to decide which two teams promoted to the Slovenian Second League. The Slovenian Second Football League ( sl, Druga slovenska nogometna liga or commonly 2. SNL) is the second highest Association football, football league in Slovenia. The league was formed in 1991 and is operated by the Football Association of Slovenia. Format and rules In its inaugural season (1991–92 Slovenian Second League, 1991–92), the Slovenian Second League was divided into two regional groups (East and West), with both winners directly promoted to the Slovenian PrvaLiga. In 1992, a unified league was formed with 16 clubs playing the Round-robin tournament, round-robin system, which lasted until 2003. Two clubs were usually promoted, while the number of those relegated varied with the number of divisions in the Slovenian Third League. In 2003, the league was reduced to twelve teams and only the champion was directly promoted to PrvaLiga, as additional promotion play-offs were introduced for the second place.
