NIT Season Tip-Off
The NIT Season Tip-Off is an annual college basketball tournament that takes place in November of each year, toward the beginning of the season. The first two rounds are held at campus sites, while the semifinals and the finals are held during the week of Thanksgiving in Brooklyn, NY. 2020's tournament was to be held at Amway Center in Orlando, FL, but the COVID-19 pandemic caused the NCAA to cancel it. The tournament, which is a part of the regular season for all participating colleges, began in 1985 as the Preseason NIT, so-called in order to distinguish it from the post-season NIT. In 2005, the NCAA purchased the Men's Preseason and Postseason NIT and renamed the November tournament the NIT Season Tip-Off. The tournament remains one of the most well-known preseason tournaments in NCAA Division I men's basketball, along with the Maui Invitational. 1989–90 Kansas Jayhawks Men's Basketball Team
The 1989–90 Kansas Jayhawks men's basketball team represented the University of Kansas in the 1989–90 NCAA Division I men's basketball season, which was the Jayhawks' 92nd basketball season. The head coach was Roy Williams, who served his 2nd year at KU. The team played its home games in Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kansas. The team set an NCAA record for largest unranked to ranked jump. Following the preseason NIT, where the Jayhawks defeated the 2nd, 1st, and 25th ranked teams in the nation, the Jayhawks jumped to the 4th ranked team in the nation. They remained in the top two for the remainder of the regular season. 1986–87 Western Kentucky Hilltoppers Basketball Team
The 1986–87 Western Kentucky Hilltoppers men's basketball team represented Western Kentucky University during the 1986–87 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Hilltoppers were led by Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year Murray Arnold and SBC Player of the Year Tellis Frank. The Hilltoppers started the season by advancing to the finals of the Preseason NIT and then being ranked in the top 10 of both major polls. WKU won the SBC championship and received a bid to the 1987 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament. This team was one of the most talented in school history with three players being drafted in the early rounds of the NBA draft: Frank in the 1st round, Kannard Johnson in the 2nd, and Clarence Martin in the 3rd.
