The Northern Illinois Conference (NIC-10) is a high school athletic conference consisting of nine high Public school (government funded), public schools and one Catholic school in Illinois' Boone County, Illinois, Boone, Stephenson County, Illinois, Stephenson, and Winnebago County, Illinois, Winnebago Counties. Member schools are also full members of the Illinois High School Association (IHSA), and are among the larger schools in that area, all competing in Class AA (in the two class system) of IHSA competitions. Rockford Auburn High School
Auburn High School is a public high school located in Rockford, Illinois, Rockford, Illinois, US, housing close to 2,000 ninth- through twelfth-grade students living in the Rockford Public School District 205, Rockford school district. In addition to serving students living on the west side of Rockford, Auburn houses the high school portions of the Gifted Program, the Creative and Performing Arts Program (CAPA), and the only Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps program remaining in Rockford. Controversies A school resource officer, Bradley Lauer, slammed a student on his head causing a skull fracture. The police officer told the student's parents that the student slipped, and the schools administration assisted in the cover-up. The possible aggravated battery committed by the police officer on the child was not disclosed until the student's parents hired counsel to obtain video footage. Hononegah High School
Hononegah Community High School is a public high school in Rockton, Illinois and is the only high school comprising Hononegah Community High School District 207. Located between Rockford and the southern border of Wisconsin, the school serves students from the towns of Rockton, Roscoe, Shirland, and parts of South Beloit. Specifically, the school districts Kinnikinnick School District 131, Prairie Hill School District 133, Rockton School District 140, and Shirland School District 134 all feed into the high school. Rockford East High School (sometimes referred to as East) is a comprehensive four year high school of Rockford Public School District 205 in Rockford, Illinois. Opened in 1940 to replace Rockford High School, East opened simultaneous to Rockford West to serve the quickly expanding population. History By 1935, the attendance in Rockford's single high school grew too large. The board of education decided it would be best to establish two new high schools on the East and West sides of the Rock River. In 1938, the school board approved $3 million in funding to build two new high schools to replace Rockford High School, with 45% of the budget funded by Works Progress Administration. Belvidere High School (Belvidere, Illinois)
Belvidere High School is located in at 1500 East Avenue, Belvidere, Illinois in Boone County. History On the afternoon of April 21, 1967, an F4 tornado struck the school, killing 13 students and staff, tossing buses as students were being dismissed. The tornado was part of the 1967 Oak Lawn tornado outbreak. It was the sixth worse loss of life at an American school as a result of tornadoes, and the worst since 1955. To mark the 40th anniversary of the tragedy, a memorial to the lives lost in the tornado was erected in front of Belvidere High School in 2007. Athletics Belvidere competes in the Northern Illinois Conference (NIC-10), and is a member of the Illinois High School Association (IHSA). Boylan Catholic High School
Boylan Central Catholic High School is a private Catholic high school located in Rockford, Illinois, United States. Founded in 1960, Boylan is the only Catholic high school in the city. At the start of the 20102011 school year, there were 1187 students enrolled. Enrollment numbers have decreased in the subsequent years. Rockford High School (sometimes referred to as Rockford Central High School) was the first school opened by the newly formed, citywide, school district, Rockford Public School District 205 in Rockford, Illinois. Opened in 1885, it served as a high school from 1885 until 1940, then as the administration offices of the school district until 2011. It was sold to the City of Rockford in 2014, and demolished in 2015 as part of a redevelopment project.
