NCAA Men's National Collegiate Volleyball Championship
The NCAA men's volleyball tournament, officially titled the NCAA National Collegiate Men's Volleyball Championship, is an annual competition that determines the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) championship in American college men's volleyball. It had been the only NCAA championship in the sport from 1970 until 2012, when the NCAA launched a Division III championship. Unlike most NCAA sports, men's volleyball uses a modified version of the National Collegiate championship format, which means Division I and Division II teams compete against each other in the same tournament. In the past, schools from the Pacific Coast region have dominated this sport, in particular UCLA with coach Al Scates leading the program to 19 NCAA titles (more than any other coach). Hawaii Rainbow Warriors Volleyball
The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors volleyball team represents the University of Hawaii at Manoa in National Collegiate Athletic Association, NCAA men's competition. The team currently competes in the Big West Conference after leaving its longtime home of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation in 2018. The Rainbow Warriors are currently coached by Charlie Wade. Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) is a college athletic conference affiliated with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division II level. Formed in 1913, it consists mostly of historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), with all but one member located in the Southern United States. The SIAC has led all NCAA Division II conferences in football attendance. 1971 NCAA Men's Volleyball Tournament
The 1971 NCAA men's volleyball tournament was the second annual tournament to determine the national champion of NCAA men's college volleyball. The tournament was played at Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles, California. Like the previous year, the format of this championship consisted of a preliminary, four-team round robin to determine seeding for a subsequent single-elimination tournament. UCLA defeated UC Santa Barbara, 3–0 (15–6, 17–15, 17–15), in the championship match to win their second consecutive national title. UCLA's Kirk Kilgour and UC Santa Barbara's Tim Bonynge were named the ''Most Outstanding Players'' of the tournament. Ball State Cardinals Men's Volleyball
The Ball State Cardinals are the athletic teams that represent Ball State University, located in Muncie, Indiana. The Cardinals are part of the NCAA Division I Mid-American Conference. Charlie Cardinal is the team mascot. The Ball State University Pride of Mid-America Marching Band performs at all home football games, many home basketball games, and various other athletic and spirit events across campus. The UC Santa Barbara Gauchos are the intercollegiate athletic teams who represent the University of California, Santa Barbara. Referred to in athletic competition as ''UC Santa Barbara'' or ''UCSB'', the Gauchos participate in 19 NCAA Division I intercollegiate sports with the majority competing in the Big West Conference. UCLA Bruins Men's Volleyball
The UCLA men's volleyball program began its first year in 1953. Al Scates had been the head coach each year since 1963 until his retirement after the 2012 season. John Speraw took over as head coach after Scates retirement, and has led the team since then. As a member of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation(MPSF), the Bruins play most of their home matches in Pauley Pavilion. When Pauley is not available, they play in the Wooden Center. Scates had more wins than any other NCAA Division I men's volleyball coach, with a record (since 1970, since no records were kept from 1953 to 1969) of 1,239–290. Pauley Pavilion
Edwin W. Pauley Pavilion, commonly known as Pauley Pavilion, is an indoor arena located in the Westwood Village district of Los Angeles, California, on the campus of UCLA. It is home to the UCLA Bruins men's and women's basketball teams. The men's and women's volleyball and women's gymnastics teams also compete here. The building, designed by architect Welton Becket, was dedicated in June 1965, named for University of California Regent Edwin W. Pauley, who had matched the alumni contributions. Pauley donated almost one fifth of the more than $5 million spent in constructing the arena. The arena was renovated in 2010–12 and was reopened on November 9, 2012, when it hosted a men's basketball game against Indiana State.
