NBL (Australia) 25th Anniversary Team
To mark its 25th anniversary during the 2003–2004 season, the National Basketball League (NBL) announced its 25th Anniversary All-Time team on 9 December 2003. As a way of recognising the single best and most influential player in league history, the player who received the most first-placed votes in the voting process for this team was also named the ''NBL 25th Anniversary Most Valuable Player''. To be eligible for selection, players and coaches must have played or coached in at least 100 NBL games. Selection Committee members were asked to vote regardless of position, with Australian and import players eligible for selection. The first-ranked player on each ballot received 10 votes, the second received nine, the third received eight, and so on down to the 10th-ranked player who received one vote. Mark Davis (basketball, Born 1960)
Mark Davis (born December 23, 1960) is an American-Australian former professional basketball player. He most notably played in the National Basketball League for the Adelaide 36ers between 1985 and 2001, gaining the nickname of "The Chairman of the Boards" for his record-breaking rebounding achievements. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Davis became an Australian citizen in 1992. College career Davis began his college basketball career playing for the Temple Owls. He spent his final two seasons with the St. Augustine's Falcons. In his senior season in 1982–83, he averaged 20.5 points per game. Professional career Davis' first professional gig came in 1984, playing for Hamilton in the New Zealand NBL. There, he was named rebounding champion. Dwayne McClain
Dwayne Eddie McClain (born February 7, 1963) is an American former professional basketball player who was selected by the Indiana Pacers in the second round (27th pick overall) of the 1985 NBA draft. He played in the NBA for one season and was drafted from Villanova University. As a member of the Pacers during the 1985–86 season, he averaged 3.5 points in 45 games played. McClain was a member of Villanova's National Championship team in 1985. McClain also played professionally in France, Canada, the Philippines, Indonesia and Greece before finishing his career in Australia. Newcastle Falcons (basketball)
The Newcastle Falcons are a defunct basketball team that competed in Australia's National Basketball League (NBL). Based in Newcastle, New South Wales, the team played in the NBL's inaugural season in 1979 but left the league in the late 1990s after new owners based in Albury couldn't resolve the club's ongoing financial problems. History The Falcons hold a special place in the history of the NBL with the club largely responsible for the formation of the league which also saw them organise the first season in 1979. Al Green (born 3 September 1953) is an American-Australian former professional basketball player. He played college basketball for three different colleges and was drafted by the Phoenix Suns in 1979. He arrived in Australia in 1981 and had a successful career in the National Basketball League (NBL) until his retirement in 1993. Shane Douglas Heal (born 6 September 1970) is an Australian basketball coach and former player. Playing career International Heal's international career highlights include representing the Australian Boomers at the 1992, 1996, 2000 and 2004 Summer Olympic Games, captaining the team in 2004 in Athens. Brian Warwick Goorjian (born 28 July 1953) is an American-Australian professional basketball coach and former player served as the head coach of the Bay Area Dragons of the East Asia Super League (EASL). He is also currently the head coach of the Australia men's national basketball team. He is the most successful coach in Australian basketball and his career has been called the most successful in NBL history by Basketball Australia. Robert Rose (basketball)
Robert Paul Rose (born 27 December 1964) is an American-Australian retired professional basketball player. He played the majority of his career in the Australian National Basketball League (NBL), where he won a championship with the South East Melbourne Magic in 1992 and was a two-time NBL Most Valuable Player in 1993 and 2001. Rose was nicknamed "Australia's Michael Jordan" due to his clutch shooting and defensive abilities. College career Rose played collegiately for the George Mason Patriots from 1982 to 1986.
