NBA Development League Defensive Player Of The Year Award
The NBA G League Defensive Player of the Year is an annual NBA G League award given since the league's inaugural season to the best defensive player of the regular season. The league's head coaches determine the award by voting and it is usually presented to the honoree during the D-League playoffs. Through the 2020–21 season, three players have been named the Defensive Player of the Year more than once: Derrick Zimmerman (2005, 2006), Stefhon Hannah (2012, 2013) and DeAndre Liggins (2014, 2016). Six international players have been named recipients: Stéphane Lasme (Gabon), Mouhamed Sene (Senegal), Walter Tavares ( Cape Verde), Landry Nnoko (Cameroon), Chris Boucher (Canada), and Christ Koumadje ( Chad). NBA G League
The NBA G League, or simply the G League, is the National Basketball Association's (NBA) official List of developmental and minor sports leagues, minor league basketball organization. The league was known as the National Basketball Development League (NBDL) from 2001 to 2005, and the NBA Development League (NBA D-League) from 2005 until 2017. The league started with eight teams until NBA commissioner David Stern announced a plan to expand the NBA D-League to 15 teams and develop it into a true minor league farm team, farm system, with each NBA D-League team affiliated with one or more NBA teams in March 2005. At the conclusion of the 2013–14 NBA season, 33% of NBA players had spent time in the NBA D-League, up from 23% in 2011. Jeff Myers (basketball)
Jeff Myers (born March 24, 1974) is an American retired basketball player. During college, Myers primarily played for the Drexel Dragons men's basketball between 1994 and 1997. After graduation, he played in the United States Basketball League and the Continental Basketball Association before joining the National Basketball Development League. With the NBDL, Myers played for the Greenville Groove from 2001 to 2003 and the Columbus Riverdragons from 2003 to 2005. While with the Groove, he won the first ever NBA G League Defensive Player of the Year Award in 2002. Early life and education Myers was born on March 24, 1974, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. For high school, he went to South Philadelphia High School. In 1997, he graduated from Drexel University with a degree in accounting. Florida Flame
The Florida Flame was an NBA Development League team based in Fort Myers, Florida. The Flame announced they would temporarily shut down operations during 2006–07, due to not having a home arena in which to play. The team maintained its league membership in hopes of finding a venue for the next season. When that didn't happen, the Flame quietly folded all operations in late 2007. Franchise history The North Charleston Lowgators began play in the National Basketball Development League in 2001–02. The team was renamed the Charleston Lowgators in the fall of 2003. The Charleston Lowgators relocated to Fort Myers in fall 2004 and became the Florida Flame. Roanoke Dazzle
The Roanoke Dazzle were an NBA Development League team based in Roanoke, Virginia, U.S.. In operation from the inaugural D-League season of 2001–02 through the 2005–06 season, the Dazzle marked the return of professional basketball to Roanoke since the Virginia Squires called Roanoke home in the 1970s. Playing their home games at the Roanoke Civic Center, their logo design featured a star moving on rail tracks around a basketball. The center (C), or the centre, also known as the five or the pivot, is one of the five Basketball position, positions in a regulation basketball game. The center is normally the tallest player on the team, and often has a great deal of strength and body mass as well. In the NBA, the center is typically close to tall.
