''NASCAR Racing 3'' is a racing simulator produced by Papyrus Design Group and published by Sierra Sports for Microsoft Windows in 1999. Gameplay Players can compete in the 1999 NASCAR Winston Cup Series and the 1999 NASCAR Busch Series. The game's multiplayer was powered by the World Opponent Network (WON), but is now inaccessible by this method after the end of WON servers in 2000. The game had an expansion called ''Craftsman Truck Series Expansion''. Patches were available for updates for both the main and expansion games on the Sierra Entertainment website. Reception ''NASCAR Racing 3'' received favorable reviews according to the review aggregation website GameRankings. According to ''Edge'', the game sold at least 100,000 units in the US, but was beaten by ''NASCAR Racing 4''s 260,000 sales in the region. Robert Allen Labonte (born May 8, 1964) is an American semi-retired professional stock car racing driver and current analyst for ''NASCAR on Fox''. He also currently competes full-time in the Superstar Racing Experience, driving the No. 18 car. Labonte is the 2000 NASCAR Cup Series champion. He and his older brother, Terry Labonte, are one of only two pairs of brothers to have both won the Cup championships (along with Kurt Busch and Kyle Busch). He is also the uncle of former Xfinity Series race winner Justin Labonte. Labonte is the first driver to have won both the Winston Cup championship (2000) and the Busch Series championship (1991) in both series current touring form. Gameplay The game was a huge step forward over its predecessor and addressed many requested features for the game. Namely was the introduction of full 24-bit color, as the previous games had only allowed 256, vastly improved car models and environments and, for the first time, the ability of the car to rotate in three dimensions (i.e. the ability of the car to get airborne and flip). The simulator also continued the increased efforts to reflect the aspects of driving a real car.
