Nørre Voldgade
Nørre Voldgade ( lit. "North Rampart Street") is a street in central Copenhagen, Denmark. It runs north-east from Jarmers Plads for approximately 600 metres to Gothersgade where it turns into Øster Voldgade. The succession of Nørre Voldgade, Øster Voldgade and Vester Voldgade together forms a traffic artery which arches around the Zealand side of the central and oldest part of Copenhagen. Nørreport Station, Denmark's busiest railway station, is located in the street. History Inside the North Rampart Nørre Voldgade was originally a narrow alley which ran along the city-side margin of the North Rampart in Copenhagen's Bastioned Fortification Ring. The Northn City Gate was first located at Nørregade but moved to Frederiksborggade in 1671. A ropewalk ran along the rampart. North Boulevard The fortifications were decommissioned in 1867. Jarmers Plads
Jarmers Plads is a road junction and public space in central Copenhagen, Denmark. It takes its name after Jarmers Tower, the ruin of a Medieval tower which used to be part of the Fortification Ring which surrounded the city until the mid 19th century. History When Copenhagen's fortifications were decommissioned in the second half of the 19th century, the ramparts were leveled and the moat filled in. Jarmer's Tower was long gone but the site was excavated in connection with the Nordic Exhibition of 1888 and the remains of the tower were afterwards restored as a ruin to commemorate the city's past as a fortified city. Im 1913, it was decided to built a new head office for Østifternes Kreditforening at the site. Fiolstræde
Fiolstræde is a pedestrianised shopping street in central Copenhagen, Denmark. It passes the square Frue Plads on its way from Nørreport station in the north to Skindergade in the south where Jorcks Passage connects it to the shopping street Strøget. Copenhagen Cathedral is located on the street which also passes the rear side of Copenhagen University Library. History The area along the street was until the 17th century dominated by green areas and the name more likely refers to the violet flower (Danish: viol) rather than the fiddle (Danish: Fiol). The section from Nørre Voldgade to Krystalgade was originally called Store Fiolstræde (Large Violet Alley) while the section from Krystalgade to Skindergade was called Lille Fiolstræde (Small Violet Alley). Folketeatret is a theatre in Copenhagen, Denmark. Povl Erik Raimund Baumann (9 November 1878 – 3 July 1963) was a Danish architect who was a central figure during the transition from Neoclassicism to Functionalism in Danish residential architecture. In 1910, he was one of the founders of ''Den frie Architektforening'', an alternative architects' association, and headed it for the nine years it existed. Early life and education Baumann was born on 9 November 1878 in Copenhagen, the son of translator Heinrich Johann Raimund Baumann and Julie Augusta née Riise. He first enrolled at the College of Advanced Technology to become a building engineer but in 1888 discontinued his studies after just three semesters. Kastrup () is a suburb of Copenhagen, Denmark, on the east coast of Amager in Tårnby Municipality. It is the site of Copenhagen Airport. Folketeatret
Folketeateret is a theatre in Oslo, Norway. The building has been used as a movie theatre and as an opera house. The theatre has 1,400 seats. History The theatre itself operated from 1952 to 1959, but the institution has a much longer history. Inspired by the Freie Deutsche Volksbühne in Berlin led to forming of interest organizations in Bergen and Oslo in 1928 and 1929. The idea to establish a good theater for the working class. The ''Folketeatret'' building in Oslo was commissioned in 1929, and the architects Christian Morgenstierne (1880–1967) and Arne Eide (1881–1957) worked on it until it opened in 1935. For financial reasons, a theatre did not open immediately, but a movie theatre was operated. The first theatre performance happened in 1952. Valdemar Ingemann
Valdemar Ingemann (21 February 1840 – 10 October 1911) was a prolific Danish architect active during the late 19th and early 20th century. His works include the Royal Copenhagen Porcelain Manufactury (now Porcelænshaven) in Frederiksberg, Copenhagen. Early life and career Valdemar Ingemann was born in Copenhagen, the son of merchant and perfume manufacturer Søren Edvard Joachim Ingemann, nephew of the author Bernhard Severin Ingemann, and Mariane Aurelia Laurentine née Lauritzen. He completed a mason's apprenticeship and was prior to that, in October 1856, admitted to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts where he won the large silver medal (1863) before graduating in 1866. Career Ingemann then worked as a draughtsman for H. C. Stilling and Johan Henrik Nebelong before setting up his own practice. He taught at the Technical Society's School from 1877 to 1900.
