''Nudist Paradise'' is a 1959 British film. It was also known as ''Nature's Paradise'' in the United States. It was the first British nudist movie. Plot Mike Malone (Carl Conway) is in love with a secretary called Joan (Anita Love) who is a nudist. Production The film was shot on location at Britain's then leading naturist club, Spielplatz in St Albans, whose owners Charles and Dorothy Macaskie, make cameo appearances. Reception The film was a success at the box office recouping its cost in a matter of weeks. It inspired a number of similar films set in nudist camps. Charles Saunders (director)
Charles Joel Saunders (8 April 1904 – 20 April 1997) was an English film director and screenwriter who began in the industry as a film editor, and who also contributed to television. He was the brother of the theatrical producer Sir Peter Saunders. Career Educated at Bedales, Saunders entered the film industry in 1927 and acted as assistant director and editor with such companies as Gaumont-British. His directorial debut was a romantic comedy called ''No Exit'' (which he wrote, produced and directed), about a publisher's daughter who wrongly believes that a humble staff writer of her father's is secretly a best-selling author. Helen Wiggins (born Ellen Matilda Wiggins) was a British film editor active from the 1930s through to the 1970s. Biography Helen was the daughter of Jack Wiggins, a pioneering British cameraman. She followed in her father's footsteps as she grew up, gaining employment in processing laboratories and eventually becoming an editor for ''The National News'', a colour newsreel. She worked for Pathé News for several years, becoming its chief editor by 1940, after which she left to form her own company, Helen Wiggins Ltd. Spielplatz
Spielplatz (German for playground) is the longest-operating naturist resort in United Kingdom, and consists of located in the village of Bricket Wood, in the English county of Hertfordshire. As of 2021, the resort consists of 65 houses. History Spielplatz was founded in 1929 by Charles Macaskie and his wife Dorothy. They moved from London into a tent on an area of virgin woodland they purchased near Bricket Wood. They called their utopian camp the ''Green Monastery'' and a ''Play Place'' (Spielplatz). They were joined by other couples and individuals on weekends. Among their visitors until 1947 was Ross Nichols, founder of the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids. In turn he attracted both fellow Druids and Gerald Gardner, who later established his first coven at Bricket Wood in his development of Wicca as a modern religion. St Albans () is a cathedral city in Hertfordshire, England, east of Hemel Hempstead and west of Hatfield, Hertfordshire, Hatfield, north-west of London, south-west of Welwyn Garden City and south-east of Luton.
