Nubuke Foundation
Nubuke Foundation is an art foundation in East Legon in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. It was established in April 2006. Exhibitions Time, Trade & Travel The Time, Trade & Travel took place at Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam from 25 August to 21 October 2012 in Amsterdam, Netherlands, in the context of Project 1975 and was organised in collaboration with the Nubuke Foundation, Accra, Ghana. Under the broad umbrella of a title-Time, Trade & Travel, the history of Ghana's encounter with the Netherlands was being examined by 4 Ghanaian and 5 Dutch artists (Bernard Akoi-Jackson, Dorothy Akpene Amenuke, Serge Attukwei Clottey, Zachary Formwalt, Iris Kensmil, Aukje Koks, Navid Nuur, Jeremiah Quarshie, kari-kacha seid’ou and Katarina Zdjelar). East Legon is a town in the Accra Metropolis District, Accra Metropolitan district, a Districts of Ghana, district of the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. The Greater Accra Region has the smallest area of Ghana's 16 administrative regions, occupying a total land surface of 3,245 square kilometres. This is 1.4 per cent of the total land area of Ghana. Project 1975 started in 2010 as a two-year project based in the Netherlands with the intent to explore the relationships between contemporary art and postcolonialism. Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam
Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam (SMBA) is a project space for contemporary art in Amsterdam, Netherlands. SMBA was founded in 1993 and is part of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. It is the uccessor of Museum Fodor, a platform for young Amsterdam artists that ceased to exist in 1992. The goals of SMBA are to stimulate and signal contemporary art in Amsterdam and to create an international stage for this. SMBA organizes eight to ten solo and group exhibitions annually. The current head of Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam is Jelle Bouwhuis. Activities SMBA is situated at Rozenstraat 59 in Amsterdam. Apart from exhibitions other activities such as lectures, debates and (book) presentations are held here. Bernard Akoi-Jackson
Bernard Akoi–Jackson (born 1979), is a Ghanaian academic, artist and writer. He is known for projects that are in continual metamorphosis. His art works are mostly performative, or pseudo-rituals. His writings are focused on the development of contemporary African, Ghanaian visual arts and culture in poetic and jovial manner. He is known as a proverbial jester (or Esu) using critical absurdity to move between installations, dance and poetry, video, and photography. He blends post-colonial African identities through transient and makeshift memorials. Early life and education Akoi-Jackson attended Presbyterian Boys' Secondary School, for his secondary school education. Serge Attukwei Clottey
Serge Attukwei Clottey (born 1985) is a Ghanaian artist who works across installation, performance, photography and sculpture. He is the creator of Afrogallonism, an artistic concept, which he describes as 'an artistic concept to explore the relationship between the prevalence of the yellow oil gallons in regards to consumption and necessity in the life of the modern African.' As the founder of Ghana's ''GoLokal'', Clottey tries to transform society through art. He is based at Labadi, a suburb of Accra. Early life and education Clottey was born in Accra in 1985 and started exhibiting his works around 2003. He was educated at the Ghanatta College of Art and Design in Accra. Iris Kensmil
Iris Kensmil (born 1970, Amsterdam) is a Dutch artist of Surinamese descent. In 1996 she obtained her degree from the Academie Minerva in Groningen. In 2017 Kensmil participated in the exhibition ''Zwart en Revolutionair'' (Black and Revolutionary) at the Black Archives in Amsterdam.
