House Of Novosel
Novosel was a Croatian noble family influential in the Kingdom of Croatia and in the later Habsburg monarchy during the period in history marked by the Ottoman wars in Europe. Luka Novosel was awarded a title of nobility in 1744 for his command of the Kostajnica fortress against the Ottomans by Empress Maria Theresa. He also held the functions of Vice Prefect (Požega County and Zagreb County), member of the Royal Court (Latin ''judicium delegatum'') and member of the Royal Commission for suppressing revolt. Other famous members include Antun Novosel, who ran the bishopric printing office in Zagreb and held the function of Head of the Bishopric Palace (''Comes Curialis''). In the 15th century the Novosels settled below Medvednica. Steven (Steve) Novosel (born 1940) is an American professional jazz bassist and educator whose 40-plus year career has spanned numerous genre, from traditional jazz to swing, bebop, mainstream and avant garde. Early life and musical development Born in Farrell, Pennsylvania outside Pittsburgh in 1940, Novosel is of Croatian-American heritage. He learned to play the piano as a child, including performing traditional Croatian folk songs learned from his family. He next studied trumpet in high school and his love of jazz inspired him to become a professional musician. Upon his graduation from high school Novosel went to New York City to undertake three years of advanced trumpet study before being drafted and winning an audition to join the US Army Band at Ft. Myer, Virginia, outside Washington, D.C. Mirko Novosel
Mirko Novosel (born 30 June 1938) is a Croatian former professional basketball coach and player. Novosel coached some of the greatest players in former Yugoslavia and Croatia, such as Croatian Hall of Fame players Krešimir Ćosić and Dražen Petrović. He was enshrined into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, as a coach, on 7 September 2007. He was inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame, as a coach, in 2010. Playing career Novosel played club basketball, from 1952 to 1966, with Lokomotiva Zagreb. Natalie Novosel (born November 22, 1989) is an American professional basketball player. Born in Lexington, Kentucky, she went to Lexington Catholic High School and played collegiately for the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.
