Atherton Station
Atherton station is a former Caltrain train station, station in Atherton, California. The station had one side platform and one island platform serving the two tracks of the Peninsula Subdivision (California), Peninsula Subdivision, with a concrete and wooden shelter on the west side of the tracks. The station opened by the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1866 as Fair Oaks and was renamed Atherton in 1912. Caltrain cut weekday service to the station in 2005 due to low ridership and a hold-out rule that prohibited two trains from being at the station simultaneously. Weekend service continued until December 2020. History The San Francisco and San Jose Railroad opened from San Francisco to California Avenue station, Mayfield in 1863, and to San Jose the next year. Del Monte (train)
The ''Del Monte'' was a passenger train operated by the Southern Pacific Railroad between San Francisco and Monterey, California. It ran from 1889 to 1971. History 19th century Southern Pacific asserts that the named ''Del Monte'' service began in 1889, first appearing on an timetable as the ''Del Monte Limited''. It replaced an apparently unnamed service (maybe known colloquially as ''The Daisy'') which had operated on a similar schedule when Southern Pacific opened their Hotel Del Monte in 1880. The 1889 schedule showed train number 13 leaving San Francisco at 2:30 PM and reaching Monterey at 5:30. Four-quadrant Gate
A four-quadrant gate or full-barrier equipment is a type of boom barrier gate protecting a grade crossing. It has a gate mechanism on both sides of the tracks for both directions of automotive traffic. The exit gates blocking the road leading away from the tracks are equipped with a delay, and begin their descent to their horizontal position several seconds after the entrance gates do, so as to avoid trapping highway vehicles on the crossing. Redwood City Station
Redwood City station is a Caltrain commuter rail station located in Redwood City, California. It is served by all trains. The station has two side platforms serving the two tracks of the Peninsula Subdivision. The original station building was built in 1902. The structure burned down in 1979 and was replaced with a "temporary" station in a Trailer (vehicle), trailer. A new waiting shelter was built in 1995, designed to emulate the original though with the addition of a clock tower.
