Notre Dame (electoral District)
Notre Dame is a provincial electoral district (riding) in the Provinces and territories of Canada, Canadian province of Manitoba that was first contested in the 2019 Manitoba general election. Malaya Marcelino was elected the first member to the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba for the riding. The riding was created by the 2018 provincial redistribution out of parts of Tyndall Park (electoral district), Tyndall Park, Minto (electoral district), Minto and Logan (Manitoba electoral district), Logan. The riding contains the Winnipeg neighbourhoods of Brooklands, Weston, Winnipeg, Weston, and parts of West Alexander, Logan-C.P.R., Centennial, Winnipeg, Centennial, Daniel McIntyre, and Sargeant Park. The riding is named for Notre Dame Avenue, a local stretch of Winnipeg Route 57. Provincial electoral divisions (also known as constituencies or ridings) in Manitoba are currently single-member ridings that each elect one member to the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba. The individual who is elected thereby becomes a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). Electoral boundaries are reviewed every 10 years by the Manitoba Electoral Divisions Boundaries Commission. 2016 Manitoba General Election
The 2016 Manitoba general election was held on April 19, 2016 to elect members to the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, Canada. The New Democratic Party of Manitoba, led by Greg Selinger, were defeated by the Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba led by Brian Pallister, ending nearly 17 years of NDP government. The Tories won 40 seats, one of the largest majority governments in Manitoba history, the other one was in 1915 when Liberals also won 40 seats. The election also removed one of the two New Democratic governments in the country, the other being formed by the Alberta New Democratic Party.
