Batty Weerakoon
Batty Weerakoon, (20 January 1932 – 7 October 2019), was a Sri Lankan Trotskyist. He was the former Minister of Science and Technology, Minister of Justice and Ethnic Affairs, and General Secretary of the Lanka Sama Samaja Party (LSSP). Born in Matale, Weerakoon was educated at Trinity College, Kandy and at the University of Ceylon where he read English. During his university he was the President of the Student’s Council in 1955. He served as private secretary to Dr N. M. Perera. Fredrick De Silva
Edmund Fredrick Lorenz de Silva, (1912 – 1993) was a Ceylonese lawyer and politician. He was the Mayor of Kandy, Member of Parliament and Sri Lanka's Ambassador to France. Early life and legal career Born to George E. de Silva a prominent proctor and legislator, he was educated at Hillwood Girls' School (Hillwood College, Kandy); Trinity College, Kandy and at S. Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia, where he was classmates of Dudley Senanayake. He returned to Trinity College for his final year. In 1931, he won the Open Law Scholarship to Ceylon Law College and became a proctor in 1935 and started his practice at his father's firm De Silva & Karunaratne. In 1950 became an advocate and was called to bar from the Gray's Inn in 1959 as a barrister. Cuda Ratwatte
Sir Jayatilaka Cudah Ratwatte Adigar (15 March 1880 – 27 March 1940) was a Ceylonese colonial-era politician and headman. He was a member of the State Council of Ceylon (1931–1933), the first elected Mayor of Kandy (1939–40), the first person from Kandy to be awarded a knighthood from the British and was appointed to the post of Adigar. Born to Abeyratne Banda Ratwatte Basnayake and Thalgahagoda Lewke Punchi née Kumarihamy, he was educated at Trinity College, Kandy. His brothers were Barnes Ratwatte Dissawa and Harris Leuke Ratwatte both members of the State Council of Ceylon. He was the uncle of Sirimavo Ratwatte Dias Bandaranaike. The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly is the unicameral legislature of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It has a strength of 234 members of whom are democratically elected using the First-past-the-post voting, First-past-the-post system. The speaker of a deliberative assembly, especially a legislative body, is its presiding officer, or the chair. The title was first used in 1377 in England. Shanakiyan Ragul Rajaputhiran Rasamanickam (born 20 September 1990) is a Sri Lankan Tamil politician and Member of Parliament. Rasamanickam was born on 20 September 1990. He is the grandson of former MP S. M. Rasamanickam. He was educated at Trinity College, Kandy. He was the Sri Lanka Freedom Party's organiser in Paddiruppu. Shelton Ranaraja ( si, ෂෙල්ටන් රණරාජා; 3 November 1926 – 11 August 2011) was a Sri Lankan lawyer, politician and deputy minister. Early life and family Ranaraja was born on 3 November 1926 in Ranwala near Kegalle in central Ceylon. He was the son of landowner and politician P. B. Ranaraja. His father contested the 1931 State Council elections for the Galagedara, losing by 1,055 votes to P. B. Nugawela and unsuccessfully contested the seat at the 1936 State Council elections. His father also ran in the 1952 parliamentary elections as the UNP candidate for Dambulla, losing to H. B. Tenne. His father however subsequently served two terms as a UNP nominated Senator in the Senate of Ceylon. Ranarajara was educated at Trinity College, Kandy and S. Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia.
