Norway At The 2022 Winter Olympics
Norway competed at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China, from 4 to 20 February 2022. The Norwegian team consisted of 84 athletes. Kjetil Jansrud and Kristin Skaslien were the country's flagbearers during the opening ceremony. Biathlete Marte Olsbu Røiseland was the flag bearer during the closing ceremony. Three days before the closing ceremony, Norway won its 14th gold medal, thus matching its record performance of 2018, as well as Canada's 2010 and Germany's 2018 results. Norway won its 15th gold medal on 18 February, thus breaking the record. This should be seen in light of the ongoing medal inflation, e.g., from 16 gold medals in 1924 to 109 in 2022. However, Norway also holds the medal inflation-adjusted records: in 1936, Norwegian athletes won 41% of all events (7 out of 17), in 1928, 43% (6 out of 14). Speed skating at the 2022 Winter Olympics was held at the National Speed Skating Oval ("Ice Ribbon") in Beijing, China between 5 and 19 February 2022. It was the 24th time speed skating was held at the Winter Olympics (17th time for women). A total of 166 quota spots (83 per gender) were distributed to the sport, a decline of 14 from the 2018 Winter Olympics. For the first time, gender equality was achieved in terms of quotas. Nordic Combined At The 2022 Winter Olympics
Nordic combined at the 2022 Winter Olympics was held at the Kuyangshu Nordic Center and Biathlon Center. The three events took place between 9 and 17 February 2022. A total of 55 quota spots (all men) were distributed to the sport, the same as four years prior at the 2018 Winter Olympics. A total of three events for men were contested. Qualification A total of 55 quota spots are available to athletes to compete at the games. A maximum of five athletes could be entered by any one National Olympic Committee. Competitors are eligible to compete if they have scored points at a World or Continental cup event during the qualification period of July 2020 to 16 January 2022. The top 55 on the Olympic quota allocation list respecting the maximum of four per country will qualify to compete. Tarjei Bø (born 29 July 1988) is a Norwegian professional biathlete. Awarded Olympic gold medals, World Championship gold medals and World Cup victories from 2010 to 2022. Therese Johaug
Therese Johaug (born 25 June 1988) is a Norwegian cross-country skier from the village of Dalsbygda in Os municipality who has competed for the clubs Tynset IF and IL Nansen. In World Ski Championships she has won ten individual gold medals along with four gold medals in relays and she is a four-time Olympic gold medallist. In October 2016, Johaug tested positive for the performance-enhancing drug clostebol. She blamed the Norwegian team medic Fredrik S. Bendiksen but was nonetheless suspended for a period of 18 months. She returned to the World Cup in 2019 and has continued to dominate women's distance competitions in the following seasons.
