Nortonville is an unincorporated ghost town in Contra Costa County, California. It was located on Kirker Creek north-northeast of Mount Diablo, at an elevation of 801 feet (244 m). Location Nortonville is located on Nortonville Road just outside the city of Pittsburg in Contra Costa County. The town site is now part of the Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve. Nortonville is a city in Jefferson County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 601. History Nortonville was platted in 1873. It was named for L. Norton, Jr., a railroad employee. The first post office in Nortonville was established in May 1873. In the 1900s, Nortonville was reported to be one of three sundown towns in the state, where African Americans were not allowed to reside. Geography Nortonville is located at (39.417496, -95.331626). Nortonville, Kentucky
Nortonville is a home rule-class city in Hopkins County, Kentucky, in the United States. The population was 1,204 as of the 2010 census. History Nortonville owes its existence to the railroad industry and is named for Eckstein Norton, a Kentucky-born investment banker who started as a clerk in a country store in Russellville, Kentucky, in 1846. Norton participated in the creation of the Elizabethtown and Paducah Railroad in the late 1860s (east-west tracks). He then purchased of land in what would become "Norton Village", later changed to "Nortonville" around 1900. Norton became a shipping agent for the Illinois Central Railroad, which eventually acquired the Elizabethtown & Paducah Railroad. The north-south railroad, named the Evansville, Henderson and Nashville, was completed through Nortonville in 1872.
