Northwestern State Demons Basketball
The Northwestern State Demons basketball team is the men's basketball team that represents Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana, United States. The team currently competes in the Southland Conference and is coached by Corey Gipson who is in his 1st season as head coach. The Demons have appeared in the NCAA tournament three times, most recently in 2013. History Mike McConathy era (1999–2022) Mike McConathy was hired in 1999. In his first season, the team went 17–13 and finished fourth in the Southland Conference. In 2001, McConathy led the Demons to their first ever NCAA tournament appearance. The Demons won the first play in game after the NCAA expanded the men's tournament from 64 to 65 teams. The Demons defeated Winthrop in that game, before losing to Illinois in the next round. Southland Conference
The Southland Conference, abbreviated as SLC, is a collegiate athletic conference which operates in the South Central United States (specifically Texas and Louisiana). It participates in the NCAA's Division I for all sports; for football, it participates in the Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). The Southland sponsors 18 sports, 10 for women and eight for men, and is governed by a presidential Board of Directors and an Advisory Council of athletic and academic administrators. Chris Grant became the Southland's seventh commissioner on April 5, 2022. From 1996 to 2002, for football only, the Southland Conference was known as the Southland Football League. The conference's offices are located in the Dallas suburb of Frisco, Texas. 2005–06 Iowa Hawkeyes Men's Basketball Team
The 2005–06 Iowa Hawkeyes men's basketball team represented the University of Iowa as members of the Big Ten Conference during the 2005–06 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team was led by seventh-year head coach Steve Alford and played their home games at Carver–Hawkeye Arena. They finished the season 25–9 overall and 11–5 in Big Ten play. The Hawkeyes won the Big Ten tournament to receive an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament as #3 seed in the Atlanta Regional. 1974 NAIA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament
The 1974 NAIA men's basketball tournament was held in March at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Missouri. The 37th annual NAIA basketball tournament featured 32 teams playing in a single-elimination format. It would be the last tournament to be played in Municipal until 2002. In 1975 would be held in the new Kemper Arena. Kemper would host the NAIA Tournament until 1993, when the NAIA would move the tournament and its offices to Tulsa. NAIA Men's Basketball Championships
The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics men's basketball national championship has been held annually since 1937 (with the exception of 1944 and 2020). The tournament was established by James Naismith to crown a national champion for smaller colleges and universities. Through the 2019–20 season, the NAIA Tournament featured 32 teams, and the entire tournament was contested at one location in one week, rather than multiple locations over a series of weekends. Beginning with the 2021 edition, the tournament expanded to 48 teams, starting with play at 16 regional sites, with only the winners at these sites playing at the final venue. The 2022 tournament expanded again to 64 teams. From 1992 to 2020, the NAIA sponsored a Division II championship. 2014–15 UT Martin Skyhawks Men's Basketball Team
The 2014–15 Tennessee–Martin Skyhawks men's basketball team represented the University of Tennessee at Martin during the 2014–15 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Skyhawks, led by first-year head coach Heath Schroyer, played their home games at Skyhawk Arena and were members of the West Division of the Ohio Valley Conference. They finished the season 21–13, 10–6 in OVC play to finish in second place in the West Division. They lost in the quarterfinals of the OVC tournament to Morehead State. The 2013 Southland Conference men's basketball tournament, a part of the 2012–13 NCAA Division I men's basketball season, took place March 13–16, 2013 at the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas The winner of the tournament received the Southland Conference's automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Tournament.
