The ''Northern Territory of Australia Government Gazette'' (1869; 1873–present) is the current name for the government gazette of the Northern Territory. History During the period from 1863 until 1 January 1911, the Northern Territory was annexed and then administered by the Government of South Australia, and afterwards it was transferred to Commonwealth control. In the earliest days of colonisation, the ''Gazette'' was published in at least five different NT newspapers, which are still available online through Trove. The ''Moonta Herald and Northern Territory Gazette'' was a newspaper produced on the vessel ''SS Moonta'' that was sailed by George Goyder in 1868 and 1869 from Port Adelaide to Darwin. The aim of the 41-day voyage was to provide an initial survey of what was to become the Northern Territory. It consisted of five issues (Saturdays, 2-30 January 1869) and a supplement (Wednesday 24 February 1869), and an additional issue that was released when the vessel reached Port Darwin, where its reporting captures some of the earliest colonial impressions of the sea and land surrounding the site. The issues, which were distributed to all the people on ''Moonta'', contained comedic articles, a lost and found section, advertisements for on-board events such as concerts, and more. ''The Northern Territory Times'' was a newspaper in Darwin established in 1873 and closed in 1932. The paper was called the ''Northern Territory Times and Gazette'' from 1873–1927 and then ''The'' ''Northern Territory Times'' from 1927–1932. For a while, '' The North Australian'' (1883-1889), existed as a rival publication proposing "an independent voice". History Following the establishment of a settlement at Port Darwin in 1869, the ''Northern Territory Times and Gazette'' was set up in Adelaide and first published in 1873. The printing press was shipped to Port Darwin on the Gothenburg. The first edition was printed in a government store at the camp at the foot of Fort Hill on 7 November 1873 by George Thompson Clarkson.
