2022 Kharkiv Counteroffensive
On September 6, 2022, the Armed Forces of Ukraine launched a major counteroffensive against the Russian military during the Russian invasion of Ukraine. As Ukraine announced the start of the 2022 Kherson counteroffensive, Kherson counteroffensive in southern Ukraine in late August, Ukrainian forces also began a second counteroffensive in early September in Kharkiv Oblast, in eastern Ukraine. As the Ukrainian military broke through Russian defensive lines, it recaptured major cities in the matter of days. On September 7, the second day of the counteroffensive, the Ukrainian military advanced over into Russian-held territory. The next day, Ukraine recaptured Balakliia and Shevchenkove, Kharkiv Oblast, Shevchenkove as Russian forces withdrew and fled. Luhansk Oblast Campaign
Since 19 September 2022, a military campaign has taken place along a frontline in western parts of Luhansk Oblast and far-eastern parts of Kharkiv Oblast amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The frontline has been referred to as the Svatove–Kreminna line or the Kupiansk–Svatove–Kreminna–Bilohorivka line, after the major settlements that lie along it. Background The city of Svatove fell on 6 March 2022, less than two weeks into the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Kreminna, a city in Luhansk Oblast, was captured by Russian forces on 19 April. Between 5 and 13 May, Russian forces began a series of military engagements on the Lyman-Sievierodonetsk front.
