Northeast Region (Boy Scouts Of America)
Northeast Region was one of the four administrative regions of the Boy Scouts of America. It covered the northeastern states of Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and the northern portion of Virginia. It also covered the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and the Transatlantic Council. The other three regions were Southern, Western, and Central. Each region was then subdivided into areas. Each region had a volunteer president, assisted by volunteer officers and board members, and the day-to-day work of Scouting was managed by the regional director, assistant and associate regional directors, and area directors. Regions and areas were subdivisions of the National Council and did not have a corporate status separate from the BSA. Regions were replaced by National Service Territories in June 2021. Boy Scouts Of America
The Boy Scouts of America (BSA, colloquially the Boy Scouts) is one of the largest scouting organizations and one of the largest youth organizations in the United States, with about 1.2 million youth participants. The BSA was founded in 1910, and since then, about 110 million Americans have participated in BSA programs. Greater New York Councils
The Greater New York Councils (GNYC) is a local council of the Boy Scouts of America that serves the New York City area. GNYC has a unique organization in that it is sub-divided into borough councils, each of which is led by a borough executive. The borough councils are then divided into districts. Over five million young people have experienced Scouting through GNYC, since the council's inception in the 1920s. Western Massachusetts Council
Scouting in Massachusetts includes both Girl Scout and Boy Scouts of America (BSA) organizations. Both were founded in the 1910s in Massachusetts. With a vigorous history, both organizations actively serve thousands of youth in programs that suit the environment in which they live. History By 1910, a scout like group, Boston City Guard, was founded by Frank O. Carpenter of the English High School. The Theodore Roosevelt Council, 386 is a local council of the Boy Scouts of America. It is one of the nation's oldest, having been home to its namesake, the former US president, who was a founding member of BSA. History The council was established in 1917 and was originally named the Nassau County Council. Although Nassau County was the primary residence of Theodore Roosevelt, the Theodore Roosevelt name was taken by another council in Arizona. That council was merged into the Grand Canyon Council in 1993, freeing the name, and the Nassau County Council assumed the Theodore Roosevelt name in September 1997. Suffolk County Council is a local council of the Boy Scouts of America that serves youth in Suffolk County, New York.
