North Texas Mean Green Women's Basketball
The North Texas Mean Green women's basketball team represents the University of North Texas (UNT) in NCAA Division I college basketball, competing as a member of Conference USA. Since their 1976 inception, the team has played its home games at the Super Pit. Season-by season record Tina Slinker has the most wins as coach of the Mean Green, with 241 (along with 287 losses), in 19 seasons as coach. Of the 10 winning seasons in school history, she had coached six of them. The Mean Green played in the Southland Conference from 1983 to 1996, the Big West Conference from 1996 to 2000, the Sun Belt Conference from 2000 to 2013 before joining Conference USA in 2013. Conference USA
Conference USA (C-USA or CUSA) is an intercollegiate athletic conference whose current member institutions are located within the Southern United States. The conference participates in the NCAA's Division I in all sports. C-USA's offices are located in Dallas, Texas. History C-USA was founded in 1995 by the merger of the Metro Conference and Great Midwest Conference, two Division I conferences that did not sponsor football. However, the merger did not include either Great Midwest member Dayton or Metro members VCU and Virginia Tech. Since this left an uneven number of schools in the conference, Houston of the dissolving Southwest Conference was extended an invitation and agreed to join following the SWC's disbanding at the end of the 1995–96 academic year. The NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament is a single-elimination tournament played each spring in the United States, currently featuring 68 Women's sports, women's college basketball teams from the NCAA Division I, Division I level of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), to determine the national championship. The tournament was preceded by the AIAW women's basketball tournament, which was organized by the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) from 1972 to 1982. Basketball was one of 12 women's sports added to the NCAA championship program for the 1981–82 school year, as the NCAA engaged in battle with the AIAW for sole governance of women's collegiate sports. KNTU
KNTU (88.1 FM) is the campus radio station of the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. The signal of the station covers much of the Dallas and Fort Worth Metroplex of North Texas with an alternative rock format. Any University of North Texas student is welcome to work at the station. KNTU also produces the UNT football and men's basketball broadcast feeds for thMean Green Sports Network a radio property of Learfield, but no longer airs the games on 88.1 FM. 2019 Women's Basketball Invitational
The 2019 Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI) was a single-elimination tournament consisting of 16 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I teams that did not participate in the 2019 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament or 2019 Women's National Invitation Tournament. The 2019 field was announced on March 18. First round WBI games took place on March 20 and 21; second-round games were played on March 25 and 26. The Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI) is a women's college basketball tournament created in 2009 by Sport Tours. The inaugural tournament occurred at the conclusion of the 2009–10 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. Selections for the WBI are announced on Selection Monday. Prior to the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic the field for the WBI consisted of a 16-team, single elimination divided into two regions with 8 seeded teams in each. The current format consists of 8 teams, all of which are guraranteed 3 games. Teams are picked based on NET, record, conference standings, end of year performance, and quality wins and losses, after the NCAA and WNIT fields are filled. Women's National Invitation Tournament
The Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) is a women's national college basketball tournament with a preseason and postseason version played every year. It is operated in a similar fashion to the men's college National Invitation Tournament (NIT) and NIT Season Tip-Off. Unlike the NIT, the women's tournament is not run by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), but is an independent national championship. Triple Crown Sports, a company based in Fort Collins, Colorado that specializes in the promotion of amateur sporting events, created the WNIT in 1994 as a preseason counterpart to the then-current National Women's Invitational Tournament (NWIT). Mike Petersen (basketball)
Mike Petersen (born April 18, 1958) is a former head coach for the Atlanta Dream in 2021. Before joining the Women's National Basketball Association, Petersen worked as a head coach and assistant coach for American university basketball teams from the 1980s to 2010s. Petersen mainly worked in women's basketball as head coach of the Gonzaga, New Mexico State, TCU, Wake Forest and North Texas. With these teams, New Mexico State finished in sixth at the 1994 National Women's Invitational Tournament and enteredt the first round of the 1995 Women's National Invitation Tournament preseason event. Petersen also made it to the third round of the 2005 Women's National Invitation Tournament with Wake Forest. Denton is a city in and the county seat of Denton County, Texas, United States. Karen Sue Aston (born July 26, 1964 in Benton, Arkansas) is an American basketball player and coach. She is currently the head coach of the UTSA Roadrunners women's basketball team. She has served as the head women's basketball coach at Texas, Charlotte, and North Texas. Aston has a career record of 285-146 (.661).
