North Point
North Point is a mixed-use urban area in the Eastern District of Hong Kong. Located in the northeastern part of Hong Kong Island, the area is named after a cape between Causeway Bay and Tsat Tsz Mui that projects toward Kowloon Bay. Location North Point is bounded by Oil Street () to the west and by Tin Chiu Street () to the east, by Victoria Harbour to the north and Braemar Hill to the southeast. Causeway Bay neighbourhood lies west of North Point, while the Tsat Tsz Mui is east of North Point. History Parts of North Point have been inhabited since before the British arrived in the mid-19th century. The Metropole Hotel was built in 1899 and was used until 1906. North Point Mall is a shopping mall, located in Alpharetta, Georgia (a suburb of Atlanta). The mall opened on October 20, 1993 as one of the largest shopping malls in the country. The mall was the second final property built by Homart Development Company. The mall's anchor stores are Dillard's, JCPenney, Macy's, and Von Maur. History Like Pembroke Lakes Mall which opened in the previous year, this mall opened with space for 6 anchor stores, 5 of which were initially occupied: Rich's, Lord & Taylor, Mervyn's, JCPenney, and Sears. One of the more distinctive elements of the mall was the Rich's store, which was designed with numerous distinctive historical elements and a more elaborate design to pay tribute to its lost flagship store in downtown Atlanta, which had closed only two years earlier. Battle Of North Point
The Battle of North Point was fought on September 12, 1814, between General John Stricker's Maryland Militia and a British force led by Major General Robert Ross. Although the Americans retreated, they were able to do so in good order having inflicted significant casualties on the British, killing one of the commanders of the invading force, significantly demoralizing the troops under his command and leaving some of his units lost among woods and swampy creeks, with others in confusion. This combination prompted British colonel Arthur Brooke to delay his advance against Baltimore, buying valuable time to properly prepare for the defense of the city as Stricker retreated back to the main defenses to bolster the existing force. The engagement was a part of the larger Battle of Baltimore, an American victory in the War of 1812. ''NP'' (Ｎ・Ｐ) is a novel written by Japanese author Banana Yoshimoto (吉本ばなな) in 1990 and translated into English in 1994 by Ann Sherif. Plot summary "NP" is both the name of the novel and of a short story collection within the novel's plot, a collection written in English by the character Sarao Takase, who committed suicide before he could translate it into Japanese. Three more people attempting to translate the collection have also committed suicide. The novel is narrated by Kazami Kano, the girlfriend of the last translator to die. Kazami becomes interested in Sarao's children while she is also trying to translate NP into Japanese. North Point, Signy Island
Signy Island is a small subantarctic island in the South Orkney Islands of Antarctica. It was named by the Norwegian whaler Petter Sørlle (1884–1933) after his wife, Signy Therese. The island is about long and wide and rises to above sea level. Much of it is permanently covered with ice. The average temperature range is to about in winter (i.e. in July). The extremes extend to . It is separated from Coronation Island to the north by Normanna Strait, and from Moe Island to the southwest by Fyr Channel. Moreton Island is a large sand island on the eastern side of Moreton Bay, on the coast of South East Queensland, Australia. Due to the island's importance in navigating the northern passage into Moreton Bay and Brisbane, at least five lighthouses were constructed on the island, starting with Cape Moreton Light in , the first lighthouse in Queensland, and followed by at least four more lighthouses established from the 1860s, at Comboyuro Point, North Point, Cowan Cowan Point and Yellow Patch. Comboyuro Point Light, Cowan Cowan Point Light and Yellow Patch Light all had to be moved from their original location due to coastal erosion. Norris Point is a community in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Located on the northern peninsula of Newfoundland and 10 minutes south of Rocky Harbour, the community hosts a marine biology centre, a pharmacy, a modern health care facility, and several businesses. The community is adjacent to Gros Morne National Park. Norris Point is located on the northern side of Bonne Bay and is named after one of its first settlers, Neddy Norris, who came to the area with his wife and children between 1789 and 1790. The North Point Office Building and Tower (also known as North Point I and II) is a complex consisting of a skyscraper and an office building. It is located in downtown Cleveland, Ohio at the northeast corner of East 9th Street and Lakeside Avenue. It is the home of Cleveland founded law firm, Jones Day. Proposal North Point Tower was proposed by ''Cleveland Press'' owner Joseph Cole in 1979. In March 1980, The North Point Plan was revealed as a , 41-story office tower with a glass-enclosed atrium. There were plans to build a hotel on the site and an atrium displaying ''Press'' printing machines to the public. The tower would have been built on top of the 1957 structure. When the ''Cleveland Press'' folded on June 17, 1982, the North Point Plan did too. Construction of a more modest North Point I began in 1983, and the ''Cleveland Press'' building was demolished. North Point Light
The North Point Lighthouse Museum is a lighthouse built in 1888 in Lake Park on the East Side of Milwaukee in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, United States to mark the entrance to the Milwaukee River. The lighthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. It was also added to the Library of Congress Historic American Buildings Survey as survey HABS WI-358. History The first lighthouse on this bluff was built in 1855, a structure of Cream City brick with a cast iron lantern room, sited high to make it visible out on Lake Michigan. In the late 1880s it was jeopardized by erosion of the bluff and plans were made to replace it. In 1888 a 40-foot cast-iron lighthouse tower was built 100 feet in from the edge of the bluff, and the Queen Anne-style light keeper's quarters was built.
